Hearns top KO artist at middle.SRR did have power too of course, but whoever said Roberto had savy too stay with Ray.
Graziano was not out cold when Robi stopped him and even made it to his feet, that right hand would not have stopped Hagler.
He had more savvy than anyone Robi stopped except Basilio and La Motta and Carmen was busted up with a cut in their second fight, Jake gassed because of the right to the side as I said previously Robi`s best chance to stop Roberto would have been to go to his soft trunk. 5:00 Body shots did Jake in: This content is protected
No Duran was awesome at welter and harder to hit than Basilio and LaMotta, Robi never faced a counter pressure fighter as good as Duran at welter, I think it would have been awesome.
I've always thought the Duran vs Hearns was a total fluke punch,, People often forget that Carmen Bassilo moved up in weight and beat Sugar Ray Robinson,, So Duran could possibly as well?? Would be a great fight i'd pay for that one!
People often forget that Robinson was 36 years old, with154 fights on his clock when Basilio beat him lol. And that he won the rematch! At 36 Duran had one more decent win in him, over Barkley.
Beautiful video. Another one using this strategy a lot was joe louis. You dont see that very often nowadays, I dont know why, since it's very effective. On topic, as much as I consider SRR #1 ever, the truth is that Duran had the oportunitiy to learn from SRR, but SRR had no oportunity to learn from Duran. Duran's boxing was way more elaborated thatn SRR's. I don't see SRR koing DurĂ¡n, tbh.
I've watched a fair few of both their fights and would rank the possible outcomes of a hypothetical best version of each at Welterweight as follows: SRR by decision: :65 % SRR by stoppage: 10 % Duran by stoppage: 5% Duran by decision: 20 % At Middleweigtht, best version of each, Robinson's probabilities of decision and KO are higher. At Lightweight, best version of each, I would make Duran a clear favourite.
Barkley being a bigger danger in my book than a Carmen Bassilo who was quite shopworn at the point as well when the two meet,, Neither was a spring chicken SSR or Bassilo the second bout was far from one sided even with the closed eye,,,
The Duran who beat Leonard would have had a good chance of out pointing Robinson imo. And this is coming from a guy who considers Robinson the greatest boxer, period
The problem is that Duran should have been fully aware of Hearns' disposition for that. I still see Duran as an overall greater fighter though both were of course incredible.
That was actually a great win! As for decent wins...Duran beat Jorge Castro and deserved the nod over Macho Man.
