    Canelo vs Jacobs

Jacobs fought to conservative for the first half....then in the 2nd half much busier but still not accurate enough or landing enough hard punches. He does enough for Canelo haters to call it a draw lol (which means even they know canelo won)....he does enough to look respectable. A shame because like His fight with GGG I think Jacobs has the tools to beat both of them....but his inconsistency and lack of discipline and concentration will keep him from joining them onnthat level.

    1-5 Canelo
    6-7 Jacobs
    8 Canelo
    9-10 Jacobs
    11-12 Canelo

    Canelo 116-112

    Khaosai Galaxy vs Dong-Chun Lee
Galaxy in the white shorts Lee in White

Round 1 and the first half of 2 are very close slow feeling out rounds. Midway through the 2nd Galaxy turns up the pressure and begins boxing brilliantly landing good and seldom getting hit. In the 5th Lee digs in and starts landing back. I scored it even but could go to either guy. Galaxy looking sharp....stops him in 7.

    RBR
    1-4 Galaxy
    5 EVEN
    6 Galaxy

    60-55

Galaxy by TKO 7 in his first title defense

    Khaosai Galaxy vs Rafael Orono
Galaxy in the white trunks with red trim

Don’t know much about Orono but while he looks big and strong for the weight is a little crude-slow and wide punches. Some decent power but minus the skill to land consistently.

    RBR
    1 Galaxy
    2 Orono
    3 Galaxy
    4 Galaxy

Khaosai Galaxy TKO 5 up 39-37 on my card

Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev I

One of the great comeback performances in boxing history! Tainted by some who call it a robbery, I fall on the side of those who scored for Ward.

Tension filled fight that while not an exciting fight, the tension filled the atmosphere and that was exciting by itself.

Kovalev starts strong and wins the first 4 behind a strong jab, being busier landing the majority of clean hard shots. Kovalev drops ward in rd 2 and begins to assert his will. In rd 5 Ward digs deep and turns the tide. He is working the body good which will pay off later. Kovalev really does not go to the body much outside of 12 and that seems a major mistake of strategy or execution. Close 6th but Kovalev edged it for me. Wards corner begins a mantra “you need every round from here on out” they would tell him this every round. If you think he won these final 6 you probably scored for him, if not you probably have Kovalev or a draw.

Rds 10-11 to me are the only close tough to score rounds. If you scored for one guy you probably have them winning?

    RBR

Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev II

At times I have to remind myself that Lederman is in the business of drawing viewers and controversy draws more viewers. My word in both fights he scores almost every rd for Kovalev. He only gave Ward 6 out of 19 rds. Dreadful job by Lederman, even his commentary team disagrees with him during both fights.

Ref does a great job where both guys are rough and dirty yet he commands respect and maintains order. To me legit punches on a high belt line, unless Kovalev has gonads on his naval they look clean to me.

Kovalev still has some stamina issues, he is not diverse enough in his punch variety. He overrelies on his jab, and outside of rd 1 he neglects the body almost entirely. He has a great jab and top notch power, but he is also one dimensional and undisciplined in the way he stalks and tries to close the ring off. Ward did a great job of outboxing a larger stronger guy, taking it to the body lessening Kovalev’s output and power.

Much better fight than the first one.

    RBR
    1 Ward
    2 Kovalev
    3 Kovalev
    4 Ward
    5 Ward
    6 Kovalev
    7 Ward

TKO 8 by Ward with a brutal body assault! Up 67-66 on my card in a hotly contested fight.

Dick Tiger vs Jose Torres I

I am a big appreciator if both guys, but this fight is not really exciting. Torres felt he won but that he fought poorly. I agree with his 2nd take. He worked a solid jab and little else. He really didn’t use his left outside of the jab until double digit rounds, and by then his hook was slow wide and sloppy. Tiger has quicker hands and flashier combos, but Torres and his heavy jab landed the better punches. The judges had it 10-5 10-4-1 and 8-6-1 I had 8-6-1, and can see anything from a 1 pt Torres win to a 5 pt Tiger win as realistic.

To me this was a poor mans version of Ward vs Kovalev...lacking the excitement of that fight.

    RBR
    1 Torres

I had it about the same, my opwn card is in this thread somewhere. It was a winnable fight for Torres, who frankly never impressed me. He waited too much and let the smaller, less powerful man dictate the pace. You just can't do that.

    Khaosai Galaxy vs Israel Contreras

Contreras starts off strong, busier landing good combos and takes the first 2. Galaxy starts out strong in 3 driving Contreras to the ropes....but Contreras seems to come back and move ahead. Galaxy lands a right to the body spins Contreras around and drops with him. Finishes him off with a body shot??? In 5

    Rbr
    1-2 Contreras
    3-4 Galaxy both 10-8

Galaxy by ko 5 up 38-36 on my card

Philly, here is another abbreviated contest, but one worth watching, between Antonio Cervantes and Carlos Gimenez (the rematch). Here is how I saw it after 5 completed rounds. It's not much in length to test your scoring skills, but it is worth watching.

    Round 1: Cervantes
    Round 2: Gimenez
    Round 3: Cervantes
    Round 4: Cervantes
    Round 5: Gimenez

Fight stopped between the 5th and 6th round due to a cut Gimenez. What ensues is worth watching. Gimenez' manager (Tito Lectoure I think) physically accosts referee Marty Denkin. It is difficult to tell who stopped the fight (Denkin or the doctor) and if Lectoure is claiming there wasn't much of a cut or is he complaining about the head-butts. They feel hard-done by and to tell you the truth, they have a good argument. Gimenez is one tough dude and really good on the inside. Cervantes' punches were very sharp and crisp but he was being nullified a bit by Gimenez' infighting. And to be honest, I'm a big Cervantes fan but his head was coming in like a torpedo and despite Gimenez complaining to Denkin, all Denkin appeared to do was tap both of their heads as if to say 'be careful'. Would have liked to have seen this fight progress.

    Miguel Cotto v Ricardo Torres

A forgotten little gem that's worth a watch if you have a spare half an hour.

Two young unbeaten fighters laying their records and fledgling reputations on the line. And boy did they lay it all out there!

No feeling out process at all as Cotto tags Torres towards the end of the opening round to score the first knockdown. Torres bounces back up though and wobbles Cotto! Flying start.

Round 2 is practically an assault as Torres rocks Cotto several times before finally dropping him.

Round 3 sees a couple of low blows from Cotto that stops Torres momentum and by the end of round 4 when another borderline shot drops Torres again, Cotto looks to have turned things his way. But not so fast ... Torres turns predator again in round 5, rocking Cotto and chasing him around the ring for most of the round, doing damage. No knockdown this time but still potentially a 10-8 round anyway.

Round 6 is probably the first round where they appear to be taking a breather, but Cotto reasserts control and punctuates it with a right cross that puts Torres down again at the end of the round.

Torres looks pretty much spent but manages one more quick flurry at the start of round 7 that appears to rock Cotto but Miguel recovers quickly and drops Torres, who this time can't make it to his feet.

Cotto keeps his unbeaten record and WBO light welterweight belt but knows he's been in a war.

Jel, great fight. I know I saw it first time around but it seemed fresh to me again. I had it scored exactly like Harold Lederman after 6 rounds. 56-53 with Cotto leading

Yeah, no argument with Lederman's scoring in this one. Cotto looks at least one weight division bigger than Torres and I think it was that extra strength more than anything that got him through. I'd be interested to know what the weight difference between them was by the time they entered the ring.

Khaokor Galaxy vs Sung Kil Moon I

Still going through some Galaxy brothers fights. This is a fun 5 rounder but the headbutt leading to stoppage takes some of the shine off of it.

Moon starts strong against a sloppy/unprepared Galaxy....or at least that was how I felt after watching Galaxy Vazquez.

Moon very patient shows some solid skills and lands the better harder punches. He goes up 2-0 on my card after 2 onesided rounds.

Galaxy comes on on 3-5 working the body good. But Moon continues to Outland and outwork Khaokor. Very close rds but I felt Moon edged them.

    Judge 1 Moon 5-0 (I agree)
    Judge 2 Moon 1-0-4 (Wow)
Judge 3 Moon 2-1-2 (I can at least see this)

I really feel like had things continued they were setting things up for Khaokor to edge a controversial close Split decision?

Inadvertent headbutt early in 6, looks like a common southpaw vs orthodox clash with both guys moving in simultaneously and Moon coming out the worse for west.

Nasty gash and yes the fight should be stopped although that is a disappointing ending.

    Moon wins 6TD

Khaokor looks disgusted by the scorecards but not sure why.
