His resume isn't total garbage but he has the resume you'd expect from a guy 5-6 years as a pro and maybe with 2-3 titles defences not almost 11 years as a pro and about to make his 9th title defence and probably with only a couple of years left of his prime at best. It's pretty evident that he's always had a very carefully managed career, been protected from the start of his career to this day. Not stepping up until Liakhovich in his 5th year as a pro, picking up an easy title vs the weak title holder, mainly defending against other heavies signed to Haymon to keep the belt in house, even when finally stepping up to the top level picking on opponents who haven't looked good in recent fights and obviously avoiding unification vs Wlad and then Joshua. He's the definition of a paper champion.
Protected? Deontay Wilder fought in the amateurs in the same weight division (heavyweight) as Usyk and Beterbiev. Usyk is a year younger than Wilder. Beterbiev is a year older than Wilder. The "protected" Wilder chose to fight at heavyweight as a pro (even though he barely weighed more than 200 pounds - and still does) and they chose to dry out and fight in lower divisions and then rehydrate and show up on fight night weighing what Wilder weighs when he enters the ring. How many heavyweights have Beterbiev and Usyk knocked out - considering they are roughly the same age as he is? Wilder's KOed 39. They don't have 26 kos of light heavys or cruisers between them. How far along should they be in their careers ... considering they are roughly the same age as he is and fought their last amateur fights as heavyweights in the Olympics just like Wilder did? Wilder, Usyk or Beterbiev? Who is protected? Get out of here.
Nonsense? Clemente Russo beat Usyk and then Wilder in back-to-back heavyweight fights in the 2008 Olympics. Wilder had 30 amateur wins. Usyk had 10 times as many.
The fact you have to go back to a decade ago to strengthen your weak argument says it all, there isn’t really a debate here and even if there was you would not be willing to engage in one. I don’t think it’s totally wilders fault though
Everyone in this thread has gone back a decade. How many heavyweights have those guys knocked out? They're pros. They're champs. They're the same age as he is. They were heavyweight Olympic amateurs just like he was. They rehydrate and weigh more than 200 pounds on fight night the same as he does when he gets in the ring. Right?
Wilder's record is bloated no doubt . To be fair to Wilder , after Fury's upset win over Klitschko and AJ dominating from 2015 onwards Wilder has been kind of in the shadows and relegated to the 3rd man of the triumvirate . I think a lot of this is to do with European boxing changing the HW era not the USA . Wilder was never rated as a champion during Klitschko nor even as a contender , his name has only circulation since Klitschko got beaten twice in Europe . First time I really knew anything was when Fury entered the ring against him after he won the belts off Klitschko during the Spilka fight . Before that his WBC reign was nothing really . Since then Wilder has tried to be the AJ of the USA , he wanted to achieve what AJ achieved in Wembley but it's not really happened for him , I feel sorry for Wilder in this regard , as he tries his best with what he can do . Wilder even said at the AJ Wlad fight "I need to do this is America" he was co-commentator on the UK Sky Sports coverage of the fight . We got since then from Wilder , Stiverne 2 (not his fault , it was last minute and dealing with Don King) , Ortiz and Fury and soon Breazeale . That is a huge step up for Wilder even though the fights were not really showing anything special about Wilder other than being a 1 punch fighter . I do believe Wilder wants the tough fights , tho the pressure affects him a lot . The problem has been WBC mandating 2 tier mandatory fights and his promoters seem to be evading other more testing fights . In short Haymon and WBC don't want to leave the states and they seem pretty happy being their own division away from Unification or being overseas . People want Unification and Undisputed but I bet the WBC don't they seem happy staying put where they are .
Well if were actually being being fair.......... Wilders team made it known he was not going to fight Klitschko and that was immediately after he won the belt in the ring . Wilder also faked a staged fight between him and Fury after he knocked out Szpilka because if you look back Fury HAD a rematch with Klitschko . He HAD to take it bc it was in the contract,so that was a publicity stunt in 2015 to up his profile using fury just like hes doing with Joshua now and knew he wsasnt going to fight fury then. Its why he didn't get in the ring with Joshua on two occasions and that's bc a contract was demanded he signed to actually fight, and then cried on social media about it ? lol Fighters Wilder Avoided besides Klitschko who he didn't get a chance to avoid . lol Mansour 2016 ( was a dangerous southpaw ) / Jennings ( defeated Szplika) / Pulev ( 2015 ) / Breazeale ( 2017) / Parker ( 2018) He was after a guy named Warwzyk before this/ and one can argue a Povetkin fight since the guy was still under legal limits of a stamina substance ...etc. And Stiverne fight was his fault because he dragged that out for 8 months while going on social media challenging everyone when he knew he had that Mando? lol This is why wilder is not liked besides his riding off other fighters backs while he down plays them he builds himself up. Those who really follow this character knows he is a habitual liar and so stupid its beyond belief ( he recently admitted a space ship can fit in his head ,and that's bc nothings in it ,it can travel) ,which also adds to annoying personality. lol Wilder chose to be in the shadows that's why he signed with Haymon and involved him. its his own doing. in doing so he knows he was getting the easy route. He only fights guys knowing he has advantages . Ortiz at 48 ( only agreed to the fight again when his age of 48 came into the media) even exposed himself after that fight by claiming he knew Ortiz was older and why he took the fight in the press conference ( probably disappeared by now ) And Fury ( Warren called Finkel and said Tyson is not ready and needs a payday) Its painfully clear why its hard to like anything about the guy I can go on ,anyone who follows him knows his history outside the ring. The real question is what kinds of people actually want this guy as a unified or undisputed champion? The guy even wants to get pregnant and hes supposed to have all these tough hood types at his back ? @Dubblechin Think about that one!
Never knew Gavern RTD against Wilder . AJ KO'd him in 3 rounds . The more you look at the two opponents (Molina and Gavern) who went up against Wilder and Joshua it does not look good for Wilder . The more the evidence stacks up to me for a Breazeale upset .
