Now that guy Tex Cobb is the toughest guy Ive ever seen. He said only one man hurt him, that was Earnie Shavers. He went 15 rounds with Larry Holmes beating on him at the final bell he turned to referee Steve Crosson & said " Give me 3 more rounds I'll knock Holmes out & be champ Larry cant hit me no more his hands are busted up" I thought it was just a Tex story but I met Steve in Dallas & he verified it was true Tex Cobb Jake La Motta Antonio Margarito
I agree that Golovkin is a tough muther****er. The man can take a pounding and keep coming at you. In the first fight against Canelo he reminded me a lot of Antonio Margarito in how he was getting countered with bombs but jus kept pressing forward. I do think his first fight with Canelo took a lot out of him, and that's the reason we saw him shy away completely from "Mexican style" in the rematch. He just didn't have the same toughness he did through his career all the way through the first Canelo fight. I think the rematch may have taken even more out of him and may be evident once he steps up in class again. There is no doubt fighters of the past were much tougher. Most top fighters today are gassing after round 9.
Micky Ward might not be the most talented fighter, but he would walk through hell to put the pain on you. Hed make my list. Prime welterweight Mayorga gave no shits and would come at you guns blazing and in his prime had the chin and stamina to be a problem. .... Golovkin wouldnt make my list. Hes got a chin but just having a chin isnt the same as being an iron hearted marauder like the thread is implying its looking for. Golovkin has never really shown me hes willing to walk through flames to bring the pain. Its one of the reasons the Jacobs fight was so close. Just imo.
James Toney Never been stopped or close to being stopped in 90+ pro fights, from MW up to HW, fought the best. Went toe to toe as a small, fat and old at HW against big punchers like Sam Peter, Rahman, Evander Holyfield and Lucas Browne. Who else could have done that in modern times?
Tua, ike ibeabuchi, pre-drug problems oliver mccall, Stanley Ketchel, Carlos Monzon. special mention to arthur abraham, fighting with a broken jaw against a miranda.
