Immediate Rematch For Hearns and Hagler ?

Hearns probably not as aggressive and Hagler more aggressive. The problem with Hagler is then Leonard is not rusty anymore, but something tells me maybe Marvin could beat Ray in a rematch right after. Stylistically Ray beats him each time, but Marvin would have been pumped up. It would have a been totally different fight from the first one I can say that.

 

I think Hearns vs. Hagler, if they talked about that, or just Hearns vs. Ray.. Hearns would do better in a rematch with Hagler, but the style of Hagler is wrong for Hearns, I still thought maybe Hearns could win by TKO in midrounds. Hearns in 1989? I think he might stop Ray. in 1989 late. in a 3rd fight. And Hagler? Yeah he would be more aggressive.

 

Same result imho. Hearns would be shaken mentally in knowing Hagler could take his best punch but he couldn't take Hagler's. On the other hand if Hearns ran a marathon for the first four rounds so that some of the crispness was gone from Hagler's punches ... maybe he could turn on the taps later on. Maybe.

 

Surely I’d steward is the great trainer that everyone nowadays thinks he was then he would have come up with a new strategy for Tommy to turn the tables on Hagler in a rematch?

 

Ray looked rusty in every fight after the Hagler fight.

 

Tommy was more confident in `89 because Ray was very poor compared to his peak in `81 and he was a lot slower.

 

I thought the only fight he looked good in after Hagler was Duran. He looked decent with Lalonde, but he was off for a year and a half... For Hearns he was beaten up.. Norris. and Camacho... we can ignore.

 

Remember this. Hearns has sharp punches and Marvin's face was starting to swell at the end of round one. And Hagler said Hearns had the best jab he ever faced. So had Hearns jabbed and got the fight to go longer, who knows what would have happened.

 

I don't see the fight going much differently from Haglers approach tbh … Hearns broke his hand and right then and there the fight is over, thats just how it works with these 2 … Hearns would stay on the outside more in the 2nd fight ,, but the problem with this is that Hagler has something to say about it and will pressure Hearns again and walk through. Does Hearns have the power to stop Marvin or win on points with solid hands, absolutely .. Hearns landed MANY big shots on Hagler after the hand break but obviously the power wasn't there... so I see the fight really not going much differently TBH, Hearn's bails on the strategy because he wants to knock Marvin out and slugs it out and losses... that's just Tommy for you. As far as Ray and Tommy, well Ray answered that already, paraphrasing here, "when I looked at Tommy, I knew I was in trouble"

 

He was struggling with Lalonde and was floored and against a stale Duran he was very negative, he was far better in the Hagler fight than in any of the fights he had after that.

 

I saw a film study showing Hearns was fighting well with one hand v Hagler until he was stopped and that he stopped throwing te right hand after breaking it. Watch from 7:25
