The concern I have with Williams is as good as he looked against Hurd he still looked vulnerable late in the fight at times. He has to believe and maybe now that he has the belt it will give him the extra he needs.
154 is weak when you got average fighters like Tony Harrison, Julian Williams and Mungai holding the belts. I look forward to Madrimov clearing up the division.
Very happy for J Rock, dude did the work, deserved the win. Big props to Hurd for giving Williams all credit as well. Good fight!!
J-Rock's a good guy, and a terrific fighter so I'm happy he finally got a chance to call himself world champion. Also happy for his trainer, Stephen Edwards, who has always come across as being very intelligent and down to earth whenever I've heard him on commentary on PBC fights. Glad he got the chance to watch his long time charge win the big one.
I never saw him look vulnerable. He did take his foot off the gas a couple times and let Hurd work, which seemed like purposeful resting to me. I did see a couple defensive lapses. But what landed, he took with no problem.
Just got a chance to watch the fight and daaaammn can he fight. I dig it. Yup... I'll be keeping my eye on him now. Hope he can continue on with some big fights.
Munguia is one of the most overrated title holders in boxing today. He will be beaten badly when he finally runs into some real talent.
There were definitely some moments where it looked like if Hurd were paying attention he could have done some serious damage but Hurd never looked sharp.
