Hurd is a guy who has a hard style for many guys to deal with. Hes big and he has excellent stamina. He wears guys down through sheer exhaustion until he dominates the cards from the 8th round on or he scores a late KO. But he doesnt have much power or skills. Harrison is a very good fighter, but hes a finesse fighter. You put the pressure on him he is right there to be pressured and overpowered. Which is what Hurd does. And Lara is a pretty good defensive boxer. But he was 35. And was just too old for that kind of war of attrition. Same with Trout just too old to keep up that kind of a fight. But against JRock he was fighting a guy who was 29 years old. And has good conditioning. You kept waiting for him to wilt and breakdown from exhaustion. But he just didn't do it. His conditioning and physical strength was just too good. And once you realize you can match Hurds stamina and strength, then stylistically there isnt much left he has to offer.
I want to him fight Charlo and beat him down. But I just dont think stylistically he matches up well with Jrock. Williams is more technically proficient and a little faster. And he doesnt wear down. He can be taken out with power, but Hurd is not a puncher. I'd love to see a rematch, but would have to favor Williams, but you cant count Hurd out. Maybe he makes some adjustments.
Agreed. Hurd's career is kind of like watching a slow train wreck unfolding. You could see where it was heading, you knew there was a lot of damage being done and that eventually it would catch up to him. Regardless of how tough someone is you can only take so much damage and each fight he has been taking a lot. He has just been so much bigger and relentless than his opposition that he could pull it off. So it wasn't a great surprise to see JRock outwork him.
I'm not. Sure I was worried he'd get to J-Rock later on but it was obvious he at the very least would get outboxed early and need to rally to get the win. Williams chin and stamina were a bit of a surprise in the fight though.
Hurds just not a technically proficient fighter. He does what he does extremely well, but even Gatti is more technical than him. If you put him in front of guy who has solid stamina and strength hes easy to outbox for most world class fighters.
Yes conditioning was a factor, but not to take anything away from the skills element, J Rock out classed him
Hurd is solid but I've always thought he's waaaay to easy to hit, and lacks any type of defense. He takes way to many punches and going forward unless he becomes more defensively sound, he's only going to take more damage.
Charlo will treat him the same way J Rock did. The man takes too many clean shots and Charlo is just as strong as he is with a better skillset.
Julian isn't the only Williams who can spank his ass. Liam Williams 2.0 would be the unified three-belt king at 154 if he'd been the first Williams in the queue and no I'm not joking. This content is protected
It amazed me that his corner kept on sending him out to do the same damn things that weren't working and never looked like they were going to? Round after round. It made for a very entertaining fight, but I didn't get their thinking.
