P4P and H2H are two different match ups .. taking a 188 pound Dempsey who sprang out of his corner to kill and saw red when hit is a leap of faith against a guy forty pounds heavier, strong as an ox, a very hard puncher with a terrific chin ... Peter lost when outboxed and taken long distances .. tough for me to se a 190 pound fighter with Dempsey's style tang him out ..

Dempsey wasn't much on defense either.

I'd side with Dempsey to win, but Peter has a chance. He's actually a decent boxer with a jab. Peter is probably better than any Dempsey opponent outside of Tunney who owned him, and Sharkey who was beating him until the foul punch.

Yeah but first time round he looked like shite.

I actually think Dempsey boxed quite cagey against Willard up to the point where he hurt him.

Either way, Peter looked bad against a former MW so the size argument doesn't really appeal to me here.

If Dempsey boxes and uses the skills he undeniably had, he wins wide, maybe a later stoppage. If he tries to brawl Peter like he did Firpo, all bets are off. Prime Peter hit like a truck and had a great chin.

Yeah it's true, why consider anything irrelevant like styles.

You have to consider styles in ever matchup.

In fact that's my entire point, this match up comes down to style not size.

But that completely contradicts what you wrote when you focused on Toney's size opposed to the fact that unlike Dempsey Toney was an exceptionally cagey boxer with standout defensive and counter punching skills. The truth is Toney fought and defeated much bigger and better heavyweights from a H2H perspective in Guinn , Oquendo, Rahman, Peters, Holyfield and Jirov than Dempsey ever did. He also fought and defeated far better P4P opposition when you consider Nunn, Griffin, McCallum , Williams and Johnson.

Who Necks! By brutal KO before round 8 (Unfortunately)
Dempsey would fight like a cornered animal his savagery may overwhelm Peters in a few spurts but the gap is too large this isn't a towering pot belly red neck who struggled with an out of shape JJ who at times struggled with modern middleweights Peter's has the power and durability none like Dempsey ever faced with modern gloves and rules Dempseys power fades and Peter's took inhuman punishment in his time and unlike the only "Skilled giant" Dempsey fought in Willard Sam would impose his will on his opponents Jess was alot like Valuev a sub par boxer who enjoyed a size advantage. :(
Sam mauls the mauler and i need a shower this truth make's me feel dirty.

Time to break the old tablets. Time to cast aside myth and religious fervor for the cold analytic reason of science. Move on, people...

Willard part 2, only it last a little longer.

Dempesy will dig into the easily hit-able Peter, but because Peter has more cushion to absorb the blows, he survives awhile. Within 4 rounds welts are all over Peter, and swelling is starting over both eyes, Dempsey continues to slash and burn, he has the legs and movement to fluster the fading and now hurting Peter. Peter may land a few blows, enough that Dempsey will use his boxing ability and speed to overwhelm and confuse Peter.

By mid rounds Peter is a punching bag, eyes swollen, welts and cuts are sapping the life out of him and slowing him down, round 8 has Demspey pouring it on until the corner throws in the towel or the fight is waived by the Ref.

Ugly and bloody mauling for Peter.

    Dempsey KO

Are those guys really better P4P than Miske and Gibbons?

Is Guinn, Rahman etc really better than Sharkey, Gibbons, Fulton?
