What makes you say Vitali ruined Peter?

    This content is protected

He looked ruined from the moment the bell rang or was he just that bad all along?

I don't believe people have ever gone back and rewatched these fights cos if the did they wouldn't take this guy to beat Wilder.

It genuinely looks like he punches in slow motion. He trips over his own feet. He falls to the side after throwing a jab. He's atrocious!! 38 Vitali was able to do whatever he wanted to him and so would Wilder.

If the guy was around today he'd be laughed at and the division would be called the worst ever.

Andy Ruiz Jr looks like Gary Russel Jr compared to Sam Peter..

Dino, I usually like your posts anymore, whenever it doesn't have to do with the Klitschko's. But you just don't have objectivity on them. Peter came in at a (slightly) higher weight than normal for that fight. Probably because he knew his one chance was to land a home run and ko Vit. That said, his performance looked terrible because Vit MADE him look terrible. After this fight, Peter clearly had lost confidence and conditioning and was never remotely the same.

Regardless, as far as aesthetics, Wilder trips over his feet ALL the time and or otherwise generally looks ridiculous. It happens. As I'm sure you know, I actually rate Wilder VASTLY higher than most people on this forum. But comparing the resume of Wilder and Peter through the moment before Peter's loss to Vitali really just speaks for itself.

    Good Lord.

Nobody is "minimizing" Sam Peter. We're just not elevating to some mythical monster that he NEVER WAS.

Sam Peter is five years older than Deontay Wilder and Sam Peter has had exactly THREE more fights than Wilder. Peter's knocked out roughly half the guys he's fought.

Peter had to get off the floor THREE TIMES to win a controversial decision over freaking Jameel McCline in an interim title fight. He stopped Oleg Maskaev, who had already been knocked out five times before and arguably had the worst chin of any guy who held a heavyweight belt, and then Peter was completely dominated by a nearly 40, retired Vitali Klitschko.

    That's Sam Peter's prime.

He engaged in four heavyweight title fights - if you count his interim fight. He was stopped twice. He was floored three times in a controvsial win over McCline. And he stopped Maskaev.

    That's it.

That's the MONSTER that was Sam Peter.

He knocked out Jeremy Williams. And everyone pooped their pants thinking they had the next Tyson on their hands. But once he got past that level of heavyweight, he didn't really dominate anyone of note.

Guys like Eddie Chambers shut him out. Guys like Charles Shufford easily went the distance with him. A fat, old James Toney went the distance with him twice (and they fought twice because so many thought Toney won the first fight). Guys like Robert Helenius knocked him out.

Hell, it would've been McCline KO 2 Peter if McCline knew how to finish an opponent. Because McCline wasn't very good, either.

At a similar point in their careers ... Wilder is making his ninth title defense this weekend and Sam Peter (five years ago) was coming back after a three-year layoff from being beaten up by Helenius.

This is becoming comically stupid. Deontay Wilder is 10 times the champion Sam Peter ever was.

This thread should be preserved for all time so ... in five years when Wilder is retired with 50+ wins and 20 successful defenses ... we can all come back and ridicule everyone who chose Sam Peter MERCILESSLY.

    Wilder KO 1.

And I've always liked you, Andrew, but you need to stop.

Sam Peter was a footnote in heavyweight history.

Im objective and am just calling what i see in front of me. Im not taking anything away from Vitali , he pasted Peter one sided and made it look easy.

But the facts are the facts , Peter can barely throw punches properly and his feet look like they are attached to a ball and chain. Vitali didn't make him look that bad , he IS that bad.
Look at the video. Vitali used him like a heavy bag , because he was a heavy bag.

Joshua would blow that Peter away in 2 rounds and it wouldn't make Joshua look any better than he is. Look at Peter in that footage , then look at Dom Brezzele. There's no difference between them. Joshua looked fantastic against Breazzele - - simply because he fought a guy that couldn't box!!

Wilder does trip over himself as well , that true. But in Wilders defense its usually after he throws a very fast haymaker.

Peter is falling over after throwing the slowest punches you will ever see!! It takes him an eternity to readjust himself. Wilder is dangerous because he can pounce back into action immediately after losing balance.
There's a worlds difference between Wilder and Peter.

Peter isn't any better than Chisora and Tyson Fury called Chisora fighting Wilder a "suicide mission"

Peter does the same things in the Jovo Pudar fight ... he was slow and was good at clubbing guys who stood around and let him club them. And, even then, he knocked out about six of every 10 guys he fought.

In the end, Sam Peter was "just a guy."

Life and death with Szpilka? The only life and death in the Spzilka fight was whether Szpilka was going to die when they carried him out of the ring on a stretcher.

If Wilder didn't KO Peter in one, Peter would've quit on his stool after the first, like he did against Pulev after three.

    Peter was just another guy.

That said, people should be comparing Peter and Szpilka ... since Szpilka dominated McCline and Peter arguably should've lost against him - and couldn't stay off the floor.

Who has Wilder KO'd in 1 lol? The only remotely live opponent he has knocked out in the first half of the fight is Gerald Washington who was just taken out in 2 by a fat boy.

Might beat Peter in Stiverne I type of performance I'll give him that.

Pulev fight was when Peter was shot. Obviously you only read boxrec and never watch actual fights.

I watched the fight. I have the fight in my collection. Anyone can watch it online.

Peter was 36 years old when he quit against Pulev.

When Peter was 32, 33 and 35, he didn't fight at all.

When Peter was 31 when he was stopped by Helenius.

When Peter was 30 when he was destroyed by Wlad.

Peter was 29 when Chambers spanked him.

Peter was 28 when Vitali stopped him.

Peter was 27 when Jameel McCline was bouncing him off the floor time and time and time again.

The "prime" of Sam Peter was one fight ... against Maskaev ... who himself had already been destroyed and stopped five times ... and floored countless other times before that.

You're hyping a myth that never existed.

Some fighters reach prime earlier and become shot earlier. For example Mike Tyson. Or you think Tyson was prime at 36?

So Sam Peter reached his prime when, exactly? Was it the Jason Farley or Daniel Frank fight? (LOL)

    Go away.

Wlad Klitscko 1 - Makaev fights.
After the beating Vitaly Klitschko gave him he was visibly declined.

So his prime consisted of two KOs (Julius Long and Maskaev) ... a controversial win over McCline (when Peter was floored three times) ... and squeezing out a controversial split decision over 38-year-old James Toney?

    Got it.

    Wilder KO 1.
