Why no headgear? I am a lot younger than you and I have stacked on a lot more muscle since going back to League a few years back. I actually sparred 6 rounds last night with two different sparring partners, granted we alternated every couple rounds. So I am in pretty good form and wouldn't want to hurt a bloke your age. Maybe I will just use the jab only to give you a fair go?
Ioata is better than his record suggests. Seen him fight a couple of times including his 2nd fight where he was robbed badly I thought. No shame in taking a while to get rid if him that's for sure.

A big week in Australian boxing. I really enjoyed the fights on Wednesday night. People on other threads are making fun of us, but they just don't know a good time when they see it. I thought Joel Camilleri conducted himself very professionally before, during & after his fight with Junior Tszyu. Credit to him for taking a tough fight he wasn't expected to win, dealing with all the media patiently in the lead-up to it & giving fans who paid their money to watch a committed & gritty performance. Also enjoyed the Jack Brubaker v Ty Telford fight. I thought Brubaker did a bit better than most but there weren't any losers from this one. Except perhaps for Cameron Hammond who turned down a fight he should have taken. Good to see Jai Opetaia back in business. Getting 8 rounds under his belt was a bonus. Domestic fights with Mark Flanagan or Blake Caparello would be good for him. Or maybe get that Kiwi David Light over here. Lots of talk about who Junior Tszyu will fight next. I like Dwight Ritchie as his next opponent but if he doesn't take the fight, maybe the Kiwi Junior Middleweight champ, Bowyn Morgan, who has the same number of wins as Ritchie. That would make for a rare contest between reigning Australian & New Zealand champs. A genuine Australasian championship. Match up Jai Opetaia & David Light on the undercard & you'd have a classic Australia v New Zealand fight night. And surely they can find a Kiwi footballer who wouldn't mind taking a few swings at Justin Hodges. The Moloney bros signing with Top Rank is a great move for them & us. If they can get their hands on world championships belts (which I think they can), Top Rank will be able to get them regular fights & paydays making defences of those titles. Easier said than done perhaps but I like where that road could take them. The Moloney bros + the local Junior Middleweight scene = win for Australian boxing.
Just found out that Light v Flanagan WILL be shown live here in NZ which is awesome as boxing coverage outside of Joseph Parker here in non existant. Hopefully Light can pull off the upset here and build Light v Opetaia for sometime down the line. Bowyn Morgan also fighting Jack Asis today so a bit of action down here today. Wish they included it in the Light v Flanagan card but never mind.
If the Junior Tszyu v Bowyn Morgan & Jai Opetaia v David Light double-header gets made, I'm sure we'll sell it to you Kiwis on PPV at a very reasonable price.
Bowyn Morgan knocked out Toowoomba based Jack Asis in 3 rnds last night - the quickest he's been stopped in his long career. Bring on Tim vs Bowyn this yr.
If Dwight Ritchie is next for Tszyu in August, that potentially leaves time for another fight at the end of the year. I think the New Zealand Junior Middleweight champ should be at the front of the queue as an opponent for Tszyu in November/December. The other options are a money grab against Zab Judah (which people understandably have mixed feelings about), a benchmark international opponent (like Ray Robinson or Wale Omotoso) or Michael Zerafa coming off a loss to Horn. I think Bowyn Morgan would be a really good building block fight for Tszyu following on from Joel Camilleri & Dwight Ritchie. A fight with Morgan would also strike a balance between getting Tszyu international experience & matching him with the best available local talent. I really like the idea of an Australia v New Zealand fight card at the end of the year with Jai Opetaia v David Light as the co-main. Jai Opetaia v David Light would be a terrific match-up that catapults the winner into world title contention. No reason for them to avoid each other. They need each other to climb the ladder & develop the skills they will need to compete at the pointy end of the sport.
Very good performance from Light. Had it 98-92 myself. Don't know why the commentators were moaning about it being too wide.
* Andrew Maloney will be fighting Mexican Ruben Montaya and Jason Maloney will be fighting Mexican Cesar Ramirez Seagulls June 15. Bob Arum has plans to match Jason with Panama's Liborio Solis for WBA Title 118 lbs and Andrew with Khalid Yafi WBA Champ 115 lbs on same card. No word yet on venue but i would be leaning towards Melb. * Kerry Foley fighting Kiwi Mose Auimatagi Jr on same card Seagulls. * David Light after his Sat win should earn a world ranking as it was for the vacant WBO Oriental CW Title. A clash with Jai Opetia would be the biggest Trans Tasman CW clash since Danny Green vs Shane Cameron. * Dylan Emery new Aust 140 lb Champ. * Joshua Jenkins new Aust 168 lb Champ. * Word is Horn vs Zerafa is close to a done deal. The Hornet on Tim Tszyu and Footy Players. https://www.playersvoice.com.au/jeff-horn-graduated-primary-school/
Opetaia is ranked in every org, so I'm not sure what he gets out of fighting Light unless the Oriental WBO strap gets him higher up in the rankings. He was chasing Lagguonne to leapfrog him in the IBF. Maybe he should target Kane Watts to leap frog him in the WBA standings.
The best fighting the best from our part of the world produces better. That's what Opetaia would get out of fighting Light if he's good enough to win. Don't tell me you Kiwis are getting cold feet on this fight all of a sudden. Maybe another fight for each of them & then let's get it on!
