Hearn has been a complete bellend. Waltzed in to America like he owned the join and half got sent packing. He’s repairing well though, slowly and gradually.

Now he’s making all the right moves to make the Wilder fight, he’s even staying out of negotiations and letting John Skipper handle them himself. They’ve made Wilder a $100mil offer.

Wilder’s team are lining up Ortiz for an unworthy and pointless rematch after splattering a walking punch bag who Joshua had already KO’d and next up Kownacki. No offer for at least a year has been sent to team Joshua.

There’s one side trying to make it happen and one side not.

Not disputing any of that mate, but could we have potentially seen this fight last year had Hearn not acted the bellend?

Hearn literally said himself in an hour long IFL interview with Kugan that his insults and name-mocking has been a bad move and one of the reasons for a failure to make the Wilder fight. It came from his mouth.

No one is saying that it’s the sole reason for the fights not happening but it’s a factor and Hearn conceded that it has not been conducive to business.

Of course not. Do you really think these people would turn down a hundred million because Hearn called someone a daft name?

There was more to my point than Hearn calling someone a daft name although you seem intent on focusing on that one detail.

Yes. I think Hearn rubs people up the wrong way, particularly in how he has previously talked openly about negotiations....for example, telling anyone who would listen that Wilder should be happy with a ‘X’ offer because it is several times more than his previous high purse ‘Y’, despite Wilder & his team feeling that it was a low ball offer. Negotiations can fall apart over the silliest things, mainly ego’s. Fury, Wilder, Whyte and Joshua all have ego’s. I believe Hearn’s trumpeting of how much AJ brings to the table and how much of an A side he is, and how fighters should be grateful for the opportunity to fight him rubs people up the wrong way.

Just to add, Joshua has already stated in a previous interview on IfL that he feels that he’s somehow been blacklisted by fellow heavyweights who won’t fight him. I believe that adds weight to my opinion that Hearn’s handling of negotiations has hindered rather than helped fights to be made.
I don’t believe Hearn has been great in building a bridge to opponents teams in setting up fights.

Hope that’s better explained for you, Tony.

We are talking about the middle men here
    Not the fighters
I personally think both Wilder and Joshua would love to fight
Hardly the best tactic when trying to get a rival to sit down and thrash out a deal

Bet it got a laugh or two down Epping Forest Country Club though

I don't deny that Hearn rubs some people up the wrong way. What I object to is the idea that there's a hundred million dollars on the table for Wilder to make a fight that everyone wants to see, and he decides to knock it back to fight a guy Joshua had already beaten easily, a rematch of a fight he's already won, and a nothing fight against a vaguely top ten contender type who has beaten barely anyone of note, for an enormously smaller amount of money, because Hearn called his manager a funny name.

I think that's just so patently insignificant that it can't be taken seriously. And if it was significant, who looks the bigger idiot? Hearn calling him Shirley Winkle. Or Finkel deciding to walk away from the deal because someone called him Shirley Winkle? He can't be that thin-skinned surely?

Why are you STILL banging on about the funny name, Tony, whilst ignoring my other points?

What is clear to me is that Hearn’s original interpretation of the value of what Wilder brings to the table was way off. Banging on loudly about what AJ was worth and that Wilder should be grateful for the money that gets chucked his way clearly (the evidence being a break down in negotiations & communication) stopped the fight getting made in 2018.

What we’ve since seen is Wilder’s stock go up significantly with the fight with Fury and the highlight shot in the 12th going viral. We’ve then seen an absolute highlight reel knockout of a fella Joshua took 7 rounds to put away, go viral. In the meantime Joshua hasn't fought since September. He can now go back to the negotiating table with AJ and demand 50/50. That’s lad’s done brilliant.

You say Wilder's stock went up 'significantly' after the Fury fight. From my position, he sold about 13k tickets for his next fight, which wasn't on PPV, and earned significantly less than Joshua did for fighting someone like Carlos Takam.

If Hearn is saying that Joshua is by miles the bigger draw nothing that has happened since suggests otherwise. It's just as easy to say that Wilder's team are grossly overrating their own appeal.

The fact that Joshua already beat Breazeale means nothing. AJ is fighting someone who Parker already beat rather than someone new (e.g. Hunter, and the official reason for not giving the fight to Hunter was because "he moves too much"). Prior to that they tried to make a fight with someone who AJ already KTFO (Whyte).

Ortiz is a good fight if Fury and Joshua can't be made. It was a FOTY contender, a close fight in which arguably Wilder was given added time to recover from an Ortiz onslaught. Most people wanted to see AJ-Ortiz when Miller was scrapped.

You and Hearn seem particularly annoyed that Wilder has options outside of fighting AJ. Wilder can box Kownacki and Ortiz and then Fury straight after if we are to believe Warren and Arum on Fury's fight path.

Ruiz is a fairly late substitute.

Also, Wilder has options, but they're not particularly good options. They generally revolve around him earning a pittance compared to Joshua, in venues with a third of the tickets not being sold. If he doesn't fancy the Joshua fight then fair enough, they can't force it. But all Joshua does is go back to the UK selling out stadiums. I get that Wilder is probably a very dumb guy, but you wonder just how dumb he has to be to believe that he's on the verge, or indeed already, some huge superstar.

Wilder’s stock has gone up hugely since the AJ-Povetkin fight. He’s been involved in two hugely viral fights.

    But how has that materialised?

You say he's been in a huge 'viral' fight, and yeah, in the aftermath you went on social media and saw the memes of Fury getting up like the Undertaker and it's a bit of fun. But Wilder doesn't get paid by Facebook likes or shared Tweets. He can demonstrate that he's becoming this big star by selling out venues, shifting millions of PPV's and earning loads of money. Yet despite his profile apparently going through the roof he's not doing any of those things. Why not?

If he's such a big star for example why has the AJ fight against a fat guy barely anyone knows already sold more tickets in New York than Wilder managed to do himself for a fight in his own country? Why is AJ's purse for the Takam fight still miles more than what Wilder earns?

The thing with Wilder, and Fury to be fair, is that it's always a game of next time. You hear Warren and Finkel talk about how big they will be, without any clear evidence of how big they are now. But if we are talking about the business side of putting a fight together, what do you base it on?
