Once again we have a monster from the 1910s-1920s Leo Houck was a boxer who fought in all available weight divisions. He started out as a flyweight when he was 16 years old and went all the way to heavyweight and fought the likes of Gene Tunney there, no less. He beat greats such as Jack Dillon x2, Jack Britton x1, Battling Levinsky x3, and Billy Papke x1. He beat other Hall of famers as well. He also fought the likes of Greb x3, Tunney x2 and Mike Gibbons x2. He was even one of Jack Dempsey's sparring partners. He debatably held the world Middleweight championship from 1911-1912 after defeating Harry Lewis, who had claimed it. He "lost" this claim to Jack Dillon, though neither officially had it (Lineal rules are so weird man) He ended his career with an 11 fight win streak, coming out of retirement 2 times, the final time at the age of 38. After doing this loose research I thought he was clearly top 100 p4p worthy, and I currently have him sat at #84. But while looking through McGrain's and Crowcroft's lists, I couldn't find him anywhere. Is he not top 100 worthy? Where does everyone here rank him?
Of courese clomppton will disparage it. Big surprise. So did top troll and max kellerman clone fleabaag
Klompton goes into some details of Houck. He had some good wins against some of the better fighters he faced but more losses against the very best he faced. Not sure he cracks to the top 100. But good call. He needs to be remembered more than he is.
Why would I disparage it? Ive never read it. If you dont like that I disparage the plethora of poorly researched boxing books then kiss my ass. If you like your books written by a guy who hasnt done his homework then so be it. Im personally insulted by any man who would take it upon himself to write the life story of someone else and not put in the time and effort to get the story factually accurate. Sorry, but if you are out there publishing 300 page biographies every couple of years you are phoning it in unless you have a small army of research assistants. Its a simple fact that there are more poorly researched boxing biographies out there than well researched boxing biographies. We should all, as fans of the sport or not, be demanding better and holding these so called historians to higher standard. I wont compromise my principles and beliefs on this subject because "Morlocks" enjoys wallowing in his ignorance. I will reserve my ACTUAL judgement on the book for when I ACTUALLY read it and my words will be my own, not those from some nameless blowhard on a boxing forum. As for Houck he was a very good fighter with a lot of experience. An excellent all around athlete and always well trained and in condition. I dont think he was ever, at any point in his career, the best fighter in his division but he was a top contender for years, that is something.
What are your opinions on "Unbeaten: Rocky Marciano's fight for perfection in a crooked world" by Mike Stanton and "Ali: A Life" by Jonathan Eig
Jack London is great. I loved his hobo tale of the rode. The book yr reading is terrific too. Even if it isn't 1000 pages.lol You just proved my point! Not every bio must be an encyclopedia. Mant terrific writers tell a lifes' story in 2-400 pages normally. Yours was the exception. Of course, other bios have editors also and for good reason. You proved my point Clompton. So easy to manipulate you angry little temper tantrum twit.
Spoken like a true twit of the internet age. Enjoy getting your "news" at 140 characters a pop... I'll take publishing tips from you when you actually produce something more than a turd in your moms basement toilet.
My career is long over *****. I could buy and sell you with what I made. You got no class whatsoever Clompton. Your turd arguments are like a 13 yr old. Your whole ultra-sensitive nature is like a 13 yr old. A 13 yr old girl. You book was good but more like an encyclopedia on Greb and his opponents. You don't match up with the great biographers. Ever heard of overwriting? How is yr hate filled yellow journalistic book on the great Dempsey coming? Sure that will be a doozy. Goodbye princess time for you to run and complain to the mods since you been schooled.
"I could buy and sell you with what I made" And with that statement you have confirmed that you are twelve and still living at home.
Yrs. I live at home. Where do you live? Your boyfriend's mothers closet? Man just come out of the closet clamton
