Big Mick hasn’t got the proverbial pot to urine in following the YouTube debacle. Painful watch. Hughie needs to sign with Warren or Matchroom; I’m not sure what his level is but he certainly shouldn’t be fighting puddings like last night, even as a comeback fight.
That’s because he’s with Hennessy, fighting an opponent who’s not with Sky or BT. It was always gonna be a dud financially. I don’t give a crap that it didn’t attract the lad bible, football, sky sports news, “Eddie said” crowd. There was plenty of real boxing fans who were looking forward to it. There was good activity on this forum about it. It was an intriguing, 50-50 match up where there was a lot of questions to be answered about both fighters. Good fight, granted it’s not PPV.
Why are you having this debate. The notion that Hughie is stuck in obscurity in fights which are boring and attract barely anyone to the sport isn't controversial. It's manifestly correct. Nothing which you have said alters the fact that people just aren't interested in the guy. Very odd that the 'nobody wanted to see' comment has got you so bothered.
Yeah, I get that but it's really not the right attitude. I mean, there was a reasonable hope that he'd be good enough to get past an aging contender of Pulev's type (which proved wrong anyway) .... but you have to doubt whether they really consider him ready for Joshua. It's all about the money and it belies a lack of confidence in Hughie's ability to make improvements over the next few years. Pulev wasn't a particularly bad choice of opponent but they took that fight just 2 fights after the loss to Parker and now they've been out 6 months and come back with a tomato can win, it just shows a lack of overall strategy in directing his career. Exactly. It all adds to the impression they don't know what to do with him right now. If Hughie's fight with Parker hadn't been such a stinker, and the promotion hadn't been such a shambles, Parker would be a reasonable immediate target to aim for, since he seems to be at something of a loose end too. But that's a no go now, surely.
Everything about Hughie's promotion screams total lack of confidence and a desire to jump from garbage to top level without actually making normal progression. It all just points to cashing out. I think they don't reckon they have the beating of Joyce, Dubois or Gorman which is why he might as well not exist when we are talking about opponents. Plus if he loses to all of them who is he; a nondescript powderpuff puncher rapidly acquiring journeyman status.
He doesn’t appeal to the mainstream, and never will under Hennessy. Regardless, Parker/Fury was an intriguing trade fight that real boxing fans were curious about. So your comment that no one wanted to see it is nonsense. Plenty of people on here did, as you can see on the 86 page RBR. I can name you plenty of trade fights that boxing fans are interested in but will fail at the gate. Talking of failing at the gate, Fury/Parker sold more tickets than plenty of Eddie’s American shows. Hmmm. Sorry, I had to. At least I give you the courtesy of a reply, or debate. You still haven’t got back to me when I told you you were wrong by claiming that no away fighter won a round on the judges card on the Spence/Garcia undercard. Can I get your rebuttal? I’ve been waiting a long time. A classic case of “Eddie says” lolol
The final part of this post is one of the saddest things I think I've ever read. If you want to be so literal then I should have said 'very few people were interested in the fight.' Remind me never to tell you it's raining cats and dogs...
Can you please apologise for spreading fake news by copying Eddie in saying that not one away fighter won a round on the Spence/Garcia undercard?
Why do you hate fighters of Gypsy heritage so much? You constantly criticise T.Fury, Saunders and now H.Fury. What’s the reason?
I don't hate Hughie. I've said he seems like a nice enough guy. I think there is loads of criticism about how his career is panning out, not just from me, and it's pretty much all justified. I find Tyson immensely boring in the ring and a rather dubious individual out of it. Saunders is another drug cheat who finds it amusing to abuse desperate drug addicts for a laugh. I don't know why anyone would give him the time of day.
Why on earth would matchroom or Warren want another boring non ticket seller on their books, they have enough as it is
I actually find Hughie Fury's career potentially interesting. He may or may not be the clear #4 British heavyweight behind T.Fury, Joshua and Whyte ..... and if his management sought out the right fights we could find out where his level is. The likes of Chisora, Joyce, Gorman, Dubois, Price, Allen ...... and Bokole Illunga .... that should be the immediate aim. If he gets past 2 or 3 of them you'd have to consider him clear #4 and possibly #3 ahead of Whyte. I mean, he may be already around that level ..... he didn't do too poorly against Parker (who gave Joshua a decent 12 rounds, and who Whyte barely beat - and who knows how Whyte would do against Pulev ?) .... but we don't know. Alternatively, they could take a European route and get the old likes of Helenius, Huck, Dimitrenko, Teper, Wach as tune-ups, then challenged Agit Kabayel or whoever for the European title. These are all meaningful fights at a certain level.
Apologise for spreading the myth that no away fighter won a round on the Garcia Spence undercard, you hypocrite.
