Wilder isn't a great fighter, but he's that bad either. Has obvious strengths and flaws. But for the life of me I cannot understand this obsession that some have about his power. Ok, you can sleep Breazeale……. We get it...... Everybody knows that, we get it already FFS. You can also drop 250 pound chubby guys and guys on AARP.

But what about somebody with some decent skill and determination? A guy who doesn't just go in there for a paycheck and a spot on National TV?

Look I don't hate the guy, but at some point if the power is really as great as some of you say it is he should stop a legit guy.

His two toughest opponents were Bermaine Stiverne I and Tyson Fury. He didn't stop neither one. So if he really hits that hard let's see him stop somebody who is game.

Wilder is hype, his resume is soft and he's already approaching post prime age. He may even be juicing now who knows. but his brother just popped for juicing a couple of months back and Tay put on a lot of lean muscle in a short period of time and at a late age in his last fight. this isn't some 24 year old athlete this is a 33 going on 34 year old man.

Imo fury and Ortiz are the 2 best heavyweights outside of aj and Wilder and he flattened both

One that was knocked down with a single punch by a cruiserweight and the other is a Cuban.

I've been a skeptic of Wilders power for a while. I think he obviously has good power but it's not what it's hyped to be. Some people see Breazeales skill as a reflection of a chin but to me the Breazeale fight was the first sign that he might actually has ATG power. Breazeale has heart and he has taken a beating from at least two big punchers in past fights so being knocked out in round 1 is alarming. Especially considering Breazeale had been wanting and waiting for this fight for a while and came in in good shape for it.

The current division doesn't really have anyone who can be noted for their chin since prime Wach so I'm not sure if Wilder could actually prove his power to be what his biggest supporters claim it to be. Parker might have the best chin of anyone at HW right now so I'd be interested in that fight.

    This.
Stopping a top level contender has a lot more to do with having skills than power. Every great fighters KO% dropped after they kept competing at a high level.

They way Wilder flattened Ortiz and Fury shows that his power is legit. It's his boxing IQ that is lacking.

Anyone that didn't know the result would think Wilder ko'd Fury with your post, its not accurate. Ortiz isn't the 3rd or 4th best either

The man takes "PUNCHERS CHANCE" To a whole new level. His huge right hand can not be ignored. Its a serious equalizer. But hes going to keep getting outboxed which means a puncher should get his chances if hes a good enough Boxer to create some. Fury hit him plenty of times before Wilder got his equalizer out. Had Fury had a bigger punch that could of been stopped long before Wilder landed something of note. Thats why i still doubt Wilder against the very best. You could cite Ortiz as a bigger puncher and at the top end but that guy couldnt even pass a medical before his fight, still nearly had Wilder out of there to the point they had to take Wilder aside to get buzz out of his head before they let it continue.

But as he proved against Fury, he can be knackered, losing bad and find the time to pull out a bomb in the last round. Until the fight stops Deontay Wilder is a serious threat to anybody. But he himself cant afford to be open to a big hitter cuz it dont look like hes got the best of chins either.

His power should not be doubted.
But his ability to consistently beat the top contenders and champions should be doubted.

    His top 3 opponents :

    Tyson Fury.
Less than 6 months into a comeback from being a 380 pound mess less than 18 months earlier. Very few people thought Fury was ready for the fight. Most thought it was suicide. Fury hadn't done anything in his comeback at that point to be deserving of a ranking.
Wilder knocked him down but couldn't KO him and had 2 minutes left in the 12th round to finish him and failed as Fury starting beating him back !
Wilder escaped with a "DRAW". The vast majority scored the fight for Fury.

    Luis Ortiz.
A legit contender. At least 38 or 39 years old, reckoned by many to be 5 or 10 years older. Wilder ****ed him up ultimately but went through some very rough patches.
    A legit win.

    Bermane Stiverne.
Stiverne was not a very good fighter but he was WBC belt holder (no one regarded him as the champ though, since Wladimir was that). Stiverne, though a very poor alphabet titlist, was a clear step up for Wilder at the time. Wilder outboxed him nicely but didn't put him down.
(We can disregard the rematch, where a shot, fat, inactive Stiverne turned up as cannon fodder bizarrely rated as "mandatory challenger" by the WBC when really he wasn't deserving of even a top 30 rating at that point.)

    .........

The rest of Wilder's resume were guys who were not in most people's ratings at all. Some of his challengers many knowledgeable boxing fans had never even heard of before.

Wilder has fought 3 ring ranked contenders at the time of his contest with them -

    1. Stiverne didn’t knock down (could be argued, Stiverne did tackle him at one point when he was buzzed) went distance Wilder won.

    2. Ortiz highly skilled and known for good chin also known to be on the juice twice busted and AT LEAST 38 years old and off the juice. Wilder stopped him legit win and good Ko

    3. Fury. Wilder got completely outboxed and yes he knocked down Fury twice once pretty hard although Fury got up and won remainder of round. (Fury has also been dropped by cruiserweights and journeyman in his career but gets up and keeps fighting)

So against his 3 Rated opponents Wilder is 2-1 with 1 ko. At age 34. Quite simply his competition is Not good enough to rate with all time punchers. And against his good competition his power was dangerous but not the killer he looked like vs Breazale

He KOed Ortiz. Ortiz is a legit guy.

He KDed Stiverne in the first fight but it was ruled as a slip/tackle. Buzzed him multiple times throughout the contest and never looked close to losing. One of his best ever performances.

He KDed Fury, but Fury just has ridiculous willpower, probably more than anyone else in the division. Not a huge knock on him that he couldn't knock him out.

Besides that, he also KOed Szpilka, Breazeale, Washington and Duhaupas. None of those guys can be said to have just turned up for the pay check. Szpilka was game as f***.

But we all know the result. Wilder barely connected the whole fight but when he did he leveled fury hard. Ortiz beats Whyte and Parker that's my opinion

I think he's somewhat of an enigma. Only decent opponent he has faced he's come off second best.

Needs better names on his resume.

If hes got ATG power then he should stop at least one high level opponent who is not 4000 years old.

I'm just saying his power is hyped. So go stop somebody elite.

Again, hes only fought 3 top 10 guys. 1 he stopped and 1 he almost KTFO.

As I said, top guys are not getting KOd just because someone has powe.
Shavers is one of the greatest punchers, yet quite a few scrubs went the distance with him. Why? Because Shavers wasnt half the boxer that he was a puncher.
