Hi folks...just a small question, as it seems to me that Whyte has been the No. 1 contender for ages.
Anyone know how long he's been No. 1 for? And if it is quite a while, how has Wilder got away with not fighting his No. 1 contender for so long (of course I could be wrong, and maybe he's only been No.1 for a short period of time)?

Well, before fighting Gvozdyk Adonis Stevenson hadn't made a mandatory title defense since 2013...

Cheers...just checked the WBC rules, and effectively the rules just state they can do what they want. So - Whyte could be No.1 contender for 10 years and still not get a fight for the title....

"For the avoidance of doubt, the highest rated (or the highest rated available) boxer in the WBC rankings is never, solely by virtue of such position, the official mandatory challenger. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, including any communications attributed to the WBC, no boxer shall be considered as, or claim any privileges associated with, being a mandatory challenger unless (i) the boxer has been officially designated as such by the WBC President or the President’s designated representative, and (ii) the WBC Board of Governors has voted to authorize or ratify the designation of such boxer as mandatory challenger."

Breazeale had won an eliminator and was the mandatory.

WBC tried to order Whyte-Ortiz as an eliminator, with the winner guaranteed a shot after Breazeale, but Whyte declined.

It’s convenient to make this about Wilder, but Whyte was in AJ’s promotional stable and all Eddie did was try to make fights with ‘if you beat Whyte, you get a shot at AJ’ as a lure ... without ever pushing Whyte into a rematch for the title.

Whyte turned down an eliminator and turned down a lowball offer to fight AJ as a replacement for the Pillsbury Dough-boy, but Eddie just slotted the Burrito Blubber Brother in his place.

He was ranked 3 when Breazeale fought Molina. They updated the ranking months after that and Breazeale was promoted to 2 or 3 from 6. He WAS still the mandatory after his Molina win that WAS a final elimination match.

Whyte hasn't been ranked 1 long ,fans just have short tension spans.

Wilder isn't required to fight the number 1 guy. The number 1 guy is not forced a mandatory spot. Whyte has the Silver belt that requires HIM to fight a final eliminator. Which can be anyone in the top 10 no matter the ranking.

Whyte could have fought for SECOND mando spot but declined with Ortiz ( wouldn't really matter bc he would still be waiting and he THEN had the option for AJ,that he could have took ) bc he was targeting AJ before that time and defeated Parker for a much bigger money fight then Ortiz. Ortiz himself declined Whyte for that fight ,in short Whyte should have a final eliminator NOW bc Breazeale fight is done with. All the crying over nothing is pointless bc he cant fight Wilder anyway without a final elimination bout himself.

More jargon took place and another fight was thrown in the mix...the Breazeale vs Whyte fight was a final eliminator scheduled but Fury pulled out making Breazeale STILL the actual Mando for Wilder.

Whyte was ranked number 1 basically at the beginning of 2018 . 17 months roughly.

Breazeale has been mandatory for longer. The blame is on Wilder no one else. Whyte will have STILL a closer time line to AJ fight ,not Wilder. Wait another 2 years or so when another mando is announced. lol

Whyte was number 1, the WBC then decided to make the Breazele vs Molina (Yes...Molina) an eliminator who were #3 and #7. So it looks like being #1 means absolutely nothing in the WBC rankings as they can just decide who they want as mandatory at any given time.

The WBC after then asked Whyte to fight Ortiz. Hearn offered 3 fights to Whyte which were Pulev, Parker and Ortiz of which only one was going to be PPV (Parker), so he chose Parker.

Who knows if Whyte would have been made mandatory had he fought Ortiz, he'd already been screwed once.

The fact of the matter is the WBC have been protecting Wilder for a long, long time. This isn't a recent development. Remember those 5 voluntary defences in a row with not even a single mandatory where he didn't even fight a single top 10 opponent?

Team Wilder are petrified of Whyte, let's not even get on the AJ.

WBC are protecting Wilder, end of story.

The WBC comes up with their own mandatory however they see fit.
If he's a real threat, then he has to fight another big threat and/or a bad style matchup to get the fight. If he isn't much pf a threat or they want to position someone for a titleshot, they put him against a pushover.
If they really want someone as the mandatory, due to him being Mexican(-American) or if they owe some promoter, and they aren't sure he can beat even their worst possible contender, they just give the mandatory away after some manouvering first.

That struck me as odd at the time. Ortiz had just lost his title challenge. Normally a fighter would drop several places and someone else would get a shot but Ortiz was moved straight back into contention?

Wilder's last mandatory was Stiverne II in 2017.

The WBC belt at cruiserweight has not seen a mandatory challanger since 2013 :lol::lol::lol::lol: (WBC says Uysk-Gassiev was a mandatory, but thats not true)

At 160 they haven't had a mandatory since 2015  And that would be Willie Monroe Jr. And I don't see how he was the mandatory.

At 147 they have not had a mandatory since 2013. WBC lists Garcia-Porter as one but that was for the vacant belt.

It usually takes years before the WBC enforces a mandatory. And if their champion happens to be high profile, then good luck getting one at all.

It was the against the #3 in their rankings when the #1 was available, hardly a legitimate mandatory

Wilder bodyguard council. WBC protected Stevenson and Canelo in the past but they've been taking the **** too far with Wilder.

So it took them 2 years, congrats.
And supposedly Breazeale got that spot because he beat Molina, back in 2017
