Why did Josh quit?

    I don't get it. He looked like he might be tired, but he wasn't exhausted, nor is being tired a reason for quitting, he was knocked down a few times, but they weren't hard Fury Wilder type knock downs where you might think this guy shouldn't continue, he wasn't badly hurt. Why the hell did this guy quit???

    Even after that first knockdown in the last round (and btw, I didn't really see some hard clear punch land) he had his mouth piece half out and the look on his face was like he wasn't sure he wanted to continue.

    I don't get it. He wasn't badly hurt, he just quit. Why?

    Hes smart enough to not deliberately get concussed. When you go down three times, it suggests you will go down again soon, hes just working the odds and knows he has a rematch that he doesnt want to lose out on from a beating, hes that kind of guy.

    He probably had that planned in advance before getting in (not to throw the fight, but to decide in advance that if he went down multiple times, to play it smart and hedge for the rematch).

    It looked like Joshua was arguing something with the ref. I thought he was saying 'I didn't quit'. It'll be interesting to find out if he did quit.

    Nah I don't think he did, it was the ref who waved it off and prematurely IMO too albeit he saved him from the ignominy of being dropped on his ass again which is exactly what would've happened.

    Lack of heart. Something that he realized Andy had in an overabundance. There was no denying him and no stopping him, something AJ couldn't find in himself, so he simply gave up on himself. And its easy to understand why, after all, if you were getting your ass handed to you by a short morbidly obese guy, wouldn't you lose all faith in yourself as well?:D

    You can’t turn your back and walk away like that and be non responsive. That’s 10/10 a stoppage unless it’s canelo

    No he was hurt but I think he was just trying to buy a few extra seconds. He looked genuinely surprised when the ref waved it off and he was a reigning world champion defending three belts so I feel the ref should've given him one last chance.

    He had no idea where he was in that round (or any round). Even before the first knock down he was there in body but not spirit.

    He had lost 5 out of the 6 rounds, had been dropped 4 times, and twice in the 7th alone. He was badly concussed and very fatigued. It was over. He knew it and so did the referee.

    It was a one sided beat down. Lets call it what it was, and not pretend there was a robbery going on here. Had it been waved on, he would have been heavily dropped or knocked out cold within 20 seconds.

    Somehow the cards had him on only 57-56 down on 2 cards, and him 57-56 up on the other after 6 rounds though...

    When Joshua got dropped the last time, from the point he went down and the start of the count to the point of the ref waving it of was around 25 or 26 seconds... That was not a premature stoppage. You are right that if it went on then AJ was going down straight away for the 5th time.

    Lol what sort of a question is this? He got knocked down 4 times, was gassed and realized that he was up against a superior boxer against whom his power punches were not good enough.

    To be fair, I only watched it once (live) and I'm operating on very little sleep. However, I've just downloaded the fight a few minutes ago and will watch the finish again.

    Lol. He spat the shield, turned his back on the ref and walked to his corner. He then leaned against the ropes and wasn't moving forward. All this took about 20 seconds - how long are you going to let a guy recover? No way he wanted any more.
