The most consistent rule in boxing is the most anticipated matchups are exceptions to the rule and rarely happen. Greedy, overly cautious management always triumphs over fans that buy their bs excuses along with tickets. AJ vs Wilder may still happen at some point but won’t be the same. And yet, as a boxing fan, it unfortunately goes with the territory and I’ll probably buy a ticket.

Cheers to Ruiz for putting up a championship effort and for making the division in a way more interesting but, mostly for reminding us all that opportunities always have an expiration date.

Yeah, good post. Big night spoiled by greed, no mega-fight, would have been a lot of fun.

Hopefully Ruiz beats Joshua again though then gets up for one of the others. I'll be pulling for Ruiz bigtime in the rematch. We know that Joshua-Wilder/Joshua-Fury are near impossible to make for whatever reason. Not blaming AJ, just saying the fights seem extremely hard to make for whatever reason, whatever personality clashes.

May not be that with Ruiz, and he's certainly the better bet of the two.

I have a feeling it's more likely to happen now, if AJ wins the rematch. Wilder might find his ass after seeing AJ hurt

Ruiz vs Wilder could be interesting

I like Ruiz, he showed a lot vs Parker, gave more than a hint of his potential. He’s fun to watch, definitely made me a fan. And who knows, maybe the fights that couldn’t get made actually do.

I agree, a dedicated Ruiz could be really interesting with any of the top HW’s.

I don’t know why they keep thinking they can make pointless title defences as if the fans really care. Then it backfires. Most British boxing fans didn’t even stay up for this one. I don’t think he’ll make the money back now compared to if they made the Joshua fight. I was rooting for Ruiz for this one because I felt the fight was an insult.

If AJ goes in as the challenger I'd say definitely. It's arguable that Wilder should get 50/50 even in the unification. Or that AJ now doesn't deserve more than 50 anyway

50 50 of a vastly diminished purse is all much of a muchness.

History has way more ‘backfires’ than successes. And it repeats for obvious reasons.

There’s only been a handful of PPV fights in the U.K. that I haven’t stayed up for in twenty years. I don’t know anyone who bought this fight. It will be interesting to see the Sky Box Office figures. I think Hearn will be even more disappointed when he sees the figures.

One big night spoiled maybe, but we got a big night of a different kind.

Not sure if you've seen it yet but last night's fight was a very exciting affair.

    Round 3 in particular.

Hard to see Wilder/AJ having been more dramatic.

Wilder and Joshua blew massive paydays because of ego and bad management
