Nope, listen again the ref says "do you want to continue" Joshua replied " Three corn on the cobs please gaffa"
He looked genuinely surprised when the ref waved it off to me and it didn't look like he was faking it either. Even though AJ was coherent and wasn't wobbling all over the place on unsteady legs, I do understand why the ref waved it off and I'm sure his reasoning for doing so was he could also see that there was no way back for AJ and if that was his reasoning he was totally correct.
Just watched it. Didn't look like he quit to me. Said "I'm good" to the ref. Also his post fight demeanour has been excellent. No BS, no excuses. Not many are that humble.
And you think you're on a comedy tour. You've done at least two variations of this poor excuse for humour already you sad sack.
And ??? Its a very dark time for Joshua fans, im just bringing a bit of light comedy to the party to try ease the suffering
I actually contrast this to Lennox Lewis's reaction after Oliver Mccall and Hasim Rahman. He was mocking and criticizing Mcall calling him an ordinary fighter, a sparring fighter who benefited from a lucky punch and a referee who didn't let Lewis fight on. He was mocking and criticizing Rahman saying he threw a Lucky Punch. On the one hand it shows poor sportsmanship from Lewis but it also in a way appeals to his fans and networks that he still believes in himself and his ability to win the rematch and to show who the superior fighter is. AJ's post fight antics will look very negatively, his brand and market value and PPV figures are never going to be the same again.
Aj saw the preferential treatment wilder got where they gave him an extra 20 secs to recover after the bell sounded for the doctor to check him and musta expected the same. No, he wasn’t about his wits. Badly hurt and not knowing wtf was going on. Good stoppage
Yeah, it's remotely possible he could have got a second wind had he lasted a few more rounds, but he wasn't showing any signs of recuperating and Ruiz was starting to time him bad. And unlike the Wlad fight he'd already been knocked down four times by that point. Physical damage and psychological cowing would have been taking its toll.
One important thing to bear in mind is the ref is the same ref who worked Gvozdyk vs Stevenson and I know he felt guilty about what happened in that one even though he didn't do anything wrong, other than not calling the 2 KDs that is.
He spit his mouthpiece halfway across the ring. You only do that when you're trying to buy some time or you know you're a beaten man. He had this look of disbelief after the 3rd and 4th knockdowns. He gave a half-hearted "yes" reply to the ref but he's fortunate the fight didn't continue on. If Ruiz landed that overhand right he was looking for, AJ could've taken some serious damage. It could've shaved some bouts off of his career.
The problem is in situations like that each knockdown tends to take away from the fighters future. I was always thankful to Davey Pearl to stop the Leonard/Hearns one fight when he did, although Ray was so arm weary I am not sure he had much left. Which is why Hearns stayed up when a fresher Ray would have done damage. I think Pearl saved Hearns a little where it made no difference, and Joshua won't be too damaged from this.
