It is a testament to how obsessed with size people have become, that some people are still arguing this!
This is kind of sweet justice for Marciano fans. Anyone who says shorter fighters can’t compete is boxing illiterate. AJs chin was always suspect no way he would last with Marciano.
Eh it's arguable with the 100lbs weight advantage. I joke but Ruiz was much more fluid on offense than I had thought previously, Walcott might drop Joshua like Ruiz did but there is that weight advantage. I'd be willing to put money on the fact that Valuev hit harder than Moore
I posted this in another questioned posted here and the same answer is relevant funny after watching last nights fight (I am a big fan of Joshua, his dedication and nice personality & acomplishments) but Andy looked no taller than 5"11 and he had lifts in his sneakers and his reach couldnt have been over 70 inches and we all know he was fatter than Tony Galento ever was. Thing is Ruiz fought in his punching range after getting dropped by Joshua's great right hand, Ruiz showed heart and came back strong but what I have been saying all along is that these guys who are 6"8- 6'6-6'9 6'5 who are muscled up can not make the chin any better - we have seen that with Lewis-Vlad-Price- and we may see it with Wilder- Fury got dropped by Cunningham who was a lighter guy Ruiz has power but not a killer puncher or finisher, he was smart enough to keep his hands up and get inside Joshua's reach and close enough to be in his own punching range- the key was throwing punches in bunches size matters when you use your reach and height but when the other guys will allows him to fight where he is comfortable, his disadvantage becomes an advantage because of the super heavyweight amateur division-Big guys have gotten better but for me Joe Louis is still the best power-combo-puncher to ever live I would love to see Marciano-Dempsey or Louis on Tyson vitamins - like I said size matters if you are able to utilise the advantage but if you get outwilled a fighters disadvantage becomes an advantage I think Joshua will come back, he has a great offense but like Lewis and Vlad needs to fight off his strengths and protect his weaknesses
Congratulations to the posters who picked the Rock. I have no doubt he would maul AJ after last night.
Yes this is the absolute truth. You are always spot on. Joe Louis sized frame used to be the general size where guys never got better. You got bigger. You never got better. That was the ideal for decades. Changes to training meant a bigger size of guy than Joe Louis could be better than they ever could be before. It also meant the joe Louis sized guys can carry more weight too. So in the last generation or so there has been newer ideas of where ideals lay within the division. But the core traditional truth still remains true. Ruiz is hardly even a Joe Louis sized guy. He’s carrying 50lb excess.
Reality Check Time. Ruiz is 3" taller, 7" longer in reach, and 80 pounds heavier than Marciano. He also has far superior balance and handspeed. These are not remotely close to being the same fighters.
Yeah right lmao boy Ruiz is 6 ft tops lol hand speed about equal and not nearly the work rate and much easier to hit. To his credit he had a good game plan and overwhelmed AJ every time in range. Wonder what AJ would have done had he had twice as many punches a round thrown at him.
Marciano is more dynamic. Hits harder. Has a way better gas tank and punch output. And has incredible heart and a winners mentality. Ruiz has superior handspeed and balance? Are you sure about that? https://streamable.com/n1his https://streamable.com/tb53p
Lol the people who picked Rocky Marciano are old biased guys who only like Marciano for a certain reason and that reason has nothing to do with boxing. Marciano would maul Joshua just like Marciano maul the 160 to 170 pound Ted Lowry. Marciano would be knocked out by Joshua by the first punch he landed.
Lol go I hate people like you. Marciano knocked out 180 pound fighters. Why would you assume that equates to him being a harder puncher than a modern sized heavyweight? Because he is Rocky Marciano right? The rules that apply for everybody else doesn't apply to your hero Rocky "The Italian Tomato Can" Marciano. Marciano the tomato can couldn't even legit because 160 pound Ted Lowry. He couldn't hurt him in either fight. But yeah he could beat the 6'5 240 pound modern sized heavyweight Anthony Joshua.
This is why old people should be in nursing homes. Andy Ruiz is 260 pounds. Walcott was 190. Ruiz is a harder puncher. We aren't talking pound for pound. That is like saying Julian Jackson punched harder than Tyson Fury. Tyson Fury isn't a big puncher for heavyweight standards but he is a much bigger punching than Julian Jackson.
