Sheesh. Grow up. That is not the point at all, as much as some people want to make this a bickering “my dads harder than your dad” nonsense.

AJ lost fair and square. Psychology is a HUGE part of boxing as we all know. I was questioning his altered demeanour - even if he was in crisis he should’ve been able to pull through it. I make no excuses there and take nothing away from Ruiz.

I just wanted a thread to discuss these observations and if anyone else noticed anything or had any theories - psychology of the fight is a relevant topic and especially in this circumstance. I didn’t want to have to plow through page after page of comments like these to find nuggets of information.

It’s wild how difficult it is to have a neutral discourse on here.

Heard a rumour that Joshua went out partying the previous night before. But I can't imagine he'd be that unprofessional.

Here's a theory: he got beat up by a guy who was better on the night.

Which happens in boxing every night.

The crazy thing about this is that AJ and chief excuse-maker general Eddie Hearn (only doing his job) have both said that there was no external problem and he just got beat.

I don't know how much more people need.

I don’t doubt this at all. Good lord this is tiresome.

It’s not about “why did Joshua lose” - it’s a legitimate attempt to discuss Joshua’s altered demeanour and it’s relevance to his psychology.

But yeah, enjoy the reflected glory of Ruiz’s upset victory.

I am enjoying it. I love it. That "reflected glory" comment is waaaay off the mark though.

OK, if there is a secret psychological element to the combat, it is being kept a secret by the two people who have most to gain by speaking about it. You can develop theories about this too. They are called "conspiracy theories."

    Not trolling or gloating.
His demeanour was not unusual. He often looks a bit nervous. That's normal. Most fighters do if you look closely.
I think Ruiz had his mouthpiece in real early too. Maybe a new regulation.

He was beaten by the better man on the night. Fury schools and Wilder makes short work of him.

    Glass cannon.

See at least this is part of the dialogue. I personally have never seen him look so agitated pre fight, so assumed there was something affecting his psyche. I appreciate all opinions. Just can’t abide mindless trolling and gloating.

He lied about his black eye and said his physio did it

    clearly not.

someone was beating his ass in sparring

He didn't want to be there...his quit basically. He needs to find that fire agian or his career is over.

Ruiz beats him again the boxing is just going to be a hobby for him

Again, gloating aside, this is constructive and what I was looking for - I didn’t know both Joshua and Hearn had said that he was fine and had no external issues. That’s what this thread is here for - to catalogue and update this stuff for anyone else who had a similar impression that I had.

I know it’s not gonna be possible, and this thread is already becoming crass, but for the record I was welcoming all opinions on the specific subject. Fighting a losing battle though, inevitably.

I think Ruiz might have unwittingly finessed Joshua in the build up with his respectful bordering on subordinate demeanour. He convinced Joshua he was no threat.

Come fight night Joshua had no real hunger or fire in his belly. Didn’t show Ruiz the respect he deserved after he knocked him down and paid the price. Ruiz stopping Joshua was fantastic, one of those truly euphoric underdog moments but if Joshua can regroup and tighten up he should beat him in a rematch.
