I agree. I don't see how he is great or even near it. I questioned him in the Hall of Fame. A good champion for a few years I guess, but not against top guys. He made noise, but I don't see why people want to put him in the list with other top champs.
His preparation was fine. The excuses will be coming thick and fast in the coming months, no doubt. Maybe for years and decades ahead. Joshua was never half as good as people made out. Many of us have been remarking on it for a few years now. Fans are always overly impressed by muscles and KO reels though.
You are on to something here. Joshua's training has been going the wrong way for some time. He has added too much muscle, and he has visibly slowed down. He has also made a lot of money outside the ring, which might have blunted his hunger. He fought a really stupid fight in there, and traded with a much shorter man. So does he come back from this? I am going to take a risk on him, and say that he does. He loves the sport, has a good work ethic, and is always trying to improve his craft. I think that when the loss sinks in, he will remember what he is really here for!
He must redeem himself from this train wreck and the only way to do so would be to destroy in a rematch, much like Louis/Schmeling 2
Ruiz was a fat ass 260 pounds, Schmeling and Dempsey were lean 190 pounders. Ruiz would be closer to 190 than 260 minus the fat
Aye, but those extra pounds set additional challenges to his opponent. He's the fighter he is, not the fighter he would be minus 70lbs.
I believe he was in camp for 15 weeks. This is what he and his team wanted him to be. And frankly, he looked sharp.
