I get it, he's overhyped to an extent and eddie hearts money maker but he's not a bad guy and a decent human being and I do feel a little bad. Something was off about him last night. Ruiz did beat his ass but when he was in the corner, something seemed off for sure.
The reason he seemed off is that he was in total disbelief and embarrassed, he couldn't believe what was happening to him. He believed his own hype, and he got his bubble burst big time, and he was just as shocked as many of the fans that were watching. Except for me of course. And no, I enjoy watching pampered phony people being violently humbled.
Nothing was off and no sympathy. He was holding those belts hostage by pricing himself out of risky fights. This was simply a cherry pick gone badly wrong, because his owners didn't do their homework. He was fighting outside his comfort zone without a british sponsored ref ready to jump in to break up the fight anytime Ruiz got too close. He simply came up against a superior boxer and was found to be out of his depth. If that was in the uk the ref would have waved the fight off after Ruiz was knocked down
I agree something was off but I don't feel bad for him. He has an underlying arrogance that wasn't there at the beginning of his pro career and I think he needed to be taught a lesson and brought back to reality. I think that if he gets his head on straight that he will win the rematch.
This. With the Referee from the Parker fight Joshua would be very hard to beat. Every time Parker started landing to the body he kept breaking the fight up and making Parker walk away and restart.
I am actually not surprised it happened. Also the big 3 should be fighting each other. If they loose to a lesser fighter then well ****....karma.
His bubble probably wasn't the only thing that burst. He probably got a ruptured ear drum. Ruiz is really good at landing on people square on the ear, and he caught Joshua there repeatedly - the initial two step Joshua did after Ruiz got up from his knockdown is a prime example.
Why would we feel sorry for a hype job who got exposed by a guy who was brought in at 5 weeks, who just fought at the end of April? Ruiz had every disadvantage imaginable! When cherry picks go wrong!!!
I don't feel bad for him; heck, AJ himself seemed almost relieved that the event was over. Not just the fight, but everything. All the hype, all the pressure, all of it. The post fight interview had a really weird feel to it; I've seen a ton of upsets in my day, but I don't think I've ever seen the losing fighter come off quite like AJ did in it.
Ruiz was literally, and I mean... literally... the best available fighter. How in the hell is that a cherry pick?
