Yeh I get that mate To say they decided to fight someone else though; my question is, could they ‘legally’ get away with doing that? I’ve got a suspicion that Haymon will do all he can to stop those belts going back to AJ whilst Hearn is pulling the strings.
Who knows, none of us know what’s in that contract. Eddie seems very confident it’s happening next anyway.
I think the period following the shock of Saturday is the first time I have ever liked an @TonyHayers post... People really are being hasty...boxed foolishly and got caught on the temple...up until then Ruiz was tricky but AJ was handling him and put him down heavy. He’ll learn his lesson, they’ll come up with a game plan and he’ll win the rematch. He has the tools. He’s beaten better fighters than Ruiz on paper. I’ve given my thoughts enough times over the past couple of days so I’ll stop harping on but people are so reactionist on here...he doesn’t become a bad fighter overnight. Likewise Ruiz jr doesn’t become some beast overnight, he still had a close fight that he lost (I actually thought he deserved the nod but it was still close) to Parker, he’s not some beast. He’s a tough guy with heart and quick hands and feet, that Joshua clearly underestimated and didn’t respect because of how he looks. I’d be even more shocked if AJ lost the rematch in similar fashion. I’m not even a big AJ fan...
Ruiz jnr will be sparked out within a year or so, it's going to be a comical KO, there's nothing better than when a fat tub of s**t goes down. He's a decent boxer but the hype from Saturday is getting too much, Wilder would ice him, Fury would dance around him and drain him, Joshua at 100% deals with him. After 6 rounds those fast hands won't be as fast, that gut will become a problem and so will his face. Within 18 months we're going to see Ruiz jnr all squinty eyed on the canvas trying to get up, after that it's as you were, with a few of the up and coming Heavyweights knocking on the door.
I think that result brings AJ down to earth and hard. I expect him to go away and graft his arse off and work on what’s cost him. He dropped Ruiz let’s not forget so he can definitely hurt him. He’s also a much better boxer than he shown on Saturday night and he now knows Ruiz is no mug. I think AJ stops him in a fun fight but I wouldn’t be shocked if Ruiz does him again.
I keep forgetting what a beautiful combination Joshua landed to put Ruiz down. It could have been so very different on Saturday had Joshua not gone in and thrown hooks with him. Joshua getting starched hasn’t shocked me as such, just as Wilder or Fury getting starched wouldn’t shock me either. It’s the heavyweights and a big shot can change everything. However, what did shock me was Joshua’s response to the barrage from Ruiz. The turning on the ropes, the lack of the fight, leaning over & not throwing anything back. There was no fight in the dog and I don’t get it. What baffled me more was the strange questions to McCracken...”why am I feeling like this”, “what shot did he get me with”, “what should I do” (despite McCracken telling him repeatedly to throw the double jab and straight right). It was all a bit surreal. Joshua was lost in there, a proper rabbit in the headlights.
It was bizarre because he’s an accomplished fighter who seemed to forget everything. Go back to the Parker performance and he comfortably beats Ruiz. The way that unfolded you would’ve imagined those two fights were the other way round in terms of dates.
Although who knows what he usually says between rounds as my box office don’t usually show them. (I was watching on DAZN)
