@CarlChilders 2019 ring rankings: average height of 6 feet 4.2 inches. (All boxrec or wiki) 2009 ring year end rankings: average height of 6 feet 4.3 inches 1999 ring: 6 feet 3.1 inches 1989 6 feet 1.9 inches 1979 6 feet 2.7 inches 1969 6 feet 1.2 inches 1959 6 feet 0.7 inches So, the very best fighters of the division have grown almost 4 inches over the last 60 years, in a fairly remarkably consistent fashion.
What was Tim Witherspoon's record at the time he fought Bruno? Did he have 13 losses then or was that something that was accumulated well after his prime when he was fighting for money? And Witherspoon would have beaten the Joshua from Saturday night as well as the Wilder who fought Ortiz.
It really doesn't matter! 13 losses, two of them coming to two other guys with double digit losses thesemlves is pretty disgraceful. Come back when Joshua actually does lose to not just one, but to two guys with double digit losses themselves before he even gets qualified to be ranked as lowly as a disgraceful Frank Bruno who is multiple times more overrated than the already overrated Anthony Joshua.
Ive done such a post before. From the 50's I think. Today's era is the heaviest by far. Went thru ring magazines annual ratings on boxrec and took out the top 10's average weights year by year and grouped them into decades. People should not deny the true evolvememt of the sport.
When a fighter fought another fighter and got their result is of course very relevant Look at Roy Jones. when his reflexes went, they went and everyone was KOing him and getting Wins against him. But in his prime, different animal
Of course it matters. Nine of the thirteen losses came when he was fighting at 40 plus, in the mid 90's. Anthony won't fight into his 40's. You are a poor poster when it comes to HW's. You never apply context. Tim wasn't a great fighter, but he was a good HW who beat some decent guys.
When you're losing not just once, but twice to an absolute bum like Everett Martin, then you simply are an absolute joke. It's really that simple! That someone like Whitherspoon with double digit losses, even won a title at the time, is evidence of that era being pss-poor and horribly overrated. Come back to me when anyone from this current era becomes a heavyweight champion with that many losses and I'll apply the very same criticism to this era as well. It's amazing how people try to take the mockery out of Joshua for losing to a formidable and an extremely skilled heavyweight like Ruiz by calling Ruiz 'fat' and all the other names under the sun. Yet, these same people don't realize how much worse it is for the fighters they rank over Joshua, to lose to much inferior guys like Whitherspoon and James Smith, two guys with double digit losses who themselves have opponents they lost to with double digit losses. At least Ruiz was unbeaten (his robbery loss to Parker doesn't count) when Joshua lost to him. That, my friend is far less disgraceful and shameful than the disgraceful losses the disgustingly overrated Frank Bruno had. Not only that, but this also proves how overrated those eras were as well. That guys like Whitherspoon were champions, when they were losing to absolute jokers like Everett Martin, a guy with nearly 20 losses and lost every damn relevant fight. And before you complain about age, Whitherspoon was only 35 years old in that fight. So no excuses! Losing to such a caliber of opposition is totally inexcusable in every which way. Joshua has never lost to such a pathetic opponent, When he does, come back to me. And then you have Frank Bruno losing to James Smith, a literal joker with FREAKING 18 LOSSES for GOODNESS SAKE! And age excuses ain't going to save you here because Frank Bruno is 10 years younger than James Smith. Yet, he got sparked by such an utter pathetic opponent of such a ridiculous tier. What do you think an astronomically superior Ruiz would have done to that bodybuilder? Ruiz would have ended Bruno's career and handed worse beat-down than he did to a far superior Joshua. Joshua never has, and probably never will lose to jokers like James Smith and Tim Witherspoon. Sounds harsh, but that's the truth! Andy Ruiz Jr > any of those overrated heavyweights that have been mentioned from those past eras.
Bruno had ZERO title defenses and would not beat klitschko ,he would get his clock cleaned ,he would probably lose to Whyte and a he would definatlery lose to fury who refuses Joshua., and Wilder in all likelihood lands one on him to.,Povetkin mauls him and a Pulev would drown him in deep waters. Had he not gave Lewis a troubled fight you wouldn't even be able to make this thread . Theres LEVELS in boxing. Bruno would MAYBE get by ruiz ( im not so sure about that ) but to compare him to a multi defense champion is beyond stupid. Great fighter at times ,always dangerous but get real,he hadn't the size, speed or boxing ability of an AJ ,which doesn't matter to compare Aj he would have to only won the belt by the time its time to retire and have no title defense to be another Frank Bruno with MULTIPLE losses to lower level ability guys ? lol
Check my post history. I've been saying this era is worst in history way before Saturday night. That fight changed nothing. To quote the legendary mouth James Toney, "A b**** got knocked out by a b****." Ruiz is already training for his first title defense.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that Bruno had a "great" chin. It was ok, nothing special. However, Bruno was "great" at holding and hitting his opponents behind the head.
Troll, 24 carat Troll. You must be a troll, so... well done for getting me to bite. I normally ignore trolls but you did draw me in so I have to give you that. But I'll still respond to some errr points/wind ups. The absolute crap you've just Posted is astonishing, even for trolling.. "Ruiz is undefeated because The Parker defeat doesn't count" . Absolute classic. You are so far gone you believe you have to right to rewrite hisorty and results, incredible arrogance on display. That last sentence is yet another classic, one of the best I've seen for a while.. Ruiz Jr greater than an undefeated world champion Lewis, undefeated world champion Tyson and two former world champions even though I told you exactly where they were at those points of their careers because that's who Bruno lost to. Also, Nobody is making a mockery of Joshua, he made a mockery of himself, he got beat up and quit, it's that simple, he was dropped 4 times and quit in a fight were he was 1/25 to win with the bookies. I'm sorry you can't be held up as the saviour of heavyweight boxing, claim to be Number 1, go to the US with all that show and pomp and put in a performance like that, get beaten up and come away from it without people giving you some stick. Joshua has now been decked 5 times in his professional career, wobbled multiple times, Whyte, Povetkin and obviously Ruiz Jr and Klitschko. Also, Let's now forget 39 year old Kevin Johnson went the distance with Ruiz Jr less than a year ago, Ruiz Jr isn't a big puncher and yet he hurt AJ with every shot he seem to land, they weren't even solid on the chin shots either. So stop pretending AJ is some sort of amazing heavyweight, he is bang average when compared to past eras, same with Wilder, the only one who may have survived past eras is Fury because of his lacklustre, boring style and unwillingness to have a fight. This era of Heavyweights is average, very aberage to be honest, it's just competitive that's all.. because they are all average. BTW, I've never called Ruiz "fat" or insulted him, if you go and look at the rbr thread I actually had money on Ruiz Jr to win, 16/1" I predicted (hoped) he would win. I don't not remember you in here predicting his win, maybe you did, I might even go back and look at your old posts.
