I can't believe I read the words Andy Ruiz Jr and latino megastar in the same sentence. We need to settle down a bit folks, it was a win for the ages but we're going a bit overboard. I remember Ruiz on the Pacquiao undercards back in the day, the heavyweight who fought like a welterweight. I could swear his promoter was Top Rank then, and I could swear I remember them telling him that he wasn't going to be on the televised cards for a while until he got himself into a decent shape. That evidently never happened, and fair play to him, he's tough as nails. But some of us are talking about him like he has an ATG career ahead of him. Good parrying and fast hands, but Joshua gave him those belts. Ruiz got $30,000 in his fight before Joshua. He'll get 10 times that fighting the likes of Pulev, or 100 times that fighting Joshua in a rematch.
Any heavyweight can end up on the canvas trying to get up. If/when it happens to Ruiz, that’s boxing but he shouldn’t be discredited for it. I think he’s a quality fighter with excellent fundamentals. He makes up for being an overweight, short bloke, with having a high boxing IQ, fast hurtful hands and one hell of a chin.
Agree mate. The best thing Team Joshua could do, is give up their right to fight Ruiz next, if and only if he fights Fury or Wilder next and the winner has to fight him afterwards.
Mad how it all changes on a left hook. I think the Mexicans will get behind him though, mate. Do I think he’s a top 3 fighter....no. I do think he’s a top 6-8 fighter who has the ability to cause more upsets, definitely. He’s high skilled but there’s no getting away from the fact that he looks like a tubby lezzer and physically he’s always going to be up against it against the really big heavyweights. I’m loving it though.
Oh aye I love it too. It's as I mentioned, he fights like a Mexican welterweight, that's where his strengths are. It's not just the fast hands, but the combination punching that you don't see so much at that weight. But by the same token, with those strengths come massive weaknesses, one being short with small range. A big man with an authoritative jab gives him fits. Joshua has the beating of him too, whether or not he can pull it off now though is an entirely different matter.
The problem is that Ruiz is not particular good but he is game and simple fought back. and AJ folded/quit whatever you want to call it. There was no boxing masterclass involved, Ruiz just simply kept on coming and kept the pressure on. This was similar when WK folded against Purrity/Brewster......they kept on coming eating his best and ultimately he folded like AJ. Purrity/Brewster walked down WK and Ruiz walked down AJ.The end. Nobody wanted to listen when I said AJ has a poor Ring IQ, a poor chin/stamina/recup powers and once pushed he will collapse. I repeat myself, the fastest way for Ruiz to loose his belts is to fight Wilder.........and I do not even know if AJ is very keen to face Ruiz right away, probably looking in grave yards right to resurrect some Old shot fighters to get a win again. My problem with AJ is that he quit, he did not go out on his shield.......a lot of other fighters gonna smell blood right now confronting him.
I've gone for Ruiz because of the fashion AJ lost in. If it was a clean KO, I'd lean towards AJ because it would be more of a concentration issue perhaps. However, there were multiple major issues for AJ on Saturday night and I'm not so sure his comeback is straightforward. There has to be scars there and a loss of confidence along with his physical shortcomings. Ruiz will come with more belief than he's had in his whole life.
I see what you’re saying but he did basically get caught by a big shot that he couldn’t recover from, even if he wasn’t ko’d. How it was going down up until that point didn’t surprise me all that much. Expected Ruiz to be game early on.
This.. Is was a systematic break down from Ruiz not just a lucky or one shot KO.. He was winning rounds too AJ showed many issues in that fight fitness and technical issues.. It will be a tough rematch for AJ, he he doesn't improve on many fronts Ruiz will do it again..
If this does happen which I doubt, Haymon is going to make Eddie's T+C's look like something on the back of a post-it note and it won't be in London with MR judges. Assuming it's on neutral turf and that's being generous to Eddie, it's a 65/35 to Ruiz based purely on the manner of victory. If it was freak KO ala Lewis Sanders then I'd lean more to 50/50, but it wasn't.
Joshua's only good opponent was Parker. The fight was close and I was a little disappointed with Parker's output. Takam could have went 12 rounds with him I think that was a BS stoppage but not bad for a week or two training camp. Ruiz in a rematch would do the same thing and Ruiz know's he can, he's got this guys number. What can Joshua do, force the fight in the first 3 rounds and risk gassing out? Take it late and hope for Ruiz to gas out while he gasses out himself. Ruiz will plant those body shots in after round 4 and it will slowly be the same thing.
