You know I seen Ruiz get hit by a solid right cross from AJ and I remember thinking if that was a Wilder right hand, it could've been lights out for Ruiz. Then again Ruiz is a better boxer than a Breazeale. Faster hand speed, a tough mexican with a lot of experience. It's much harder to deal with a Ruiz than it is to deal with a Breazeale. Yeah I honestly think AJs fought the better names. Ortiz and Fury are good names and Im not going to disrespect those names by saying one of them is old, overweight etc. Champ Wilders got two good names that I rate but Joshuas got a lot more IMO.
I think you have to say, Yes. Regardless of the circumstances, that should not have happened. Could be AJ will floor Ruiz in the rematch, but I still think you have to say AJ was overrated.
I always thought he was overrated and Ruiz beating him solidified it. No disrespect to Ruiz or what he accomplished.
Yeah he’s been overhyped but when you look at it objectively he’s achieved a lot in 23 fights and was essentially learning on the job as a champion after 16 fights or something, so it’s not really that surprising he takes a loss somewhere along the way. It really now is a test of how he deals with it, probably his biggest so far in my humble opinion.
Yep totally! He seemed to take Ruiz lightly pre fight, doubt he’ll be making that mistake again in a hurry.
Meanwhile Andy "Keg Belly" Ruiz has just made heavyweight boxing a little bit more interesting Good job Andy
He has been overrated by many for a while, I've been at pains multiple times now to "correct" people when they have made out that there is a gulf in ability and that some guys were just never going to be able to beat others. There are always going to be "likely outcomes", and I expected Joshua to win - and realistically, if they fought 3 times AJ would probably win twice. This is the kind of reason I suggested the likes of Parker would have like a 33% chance of winning against AJ, when they fought... which was an unpopular opinion but I feel like it wasn't a terrible one given he had success despite the ref stopping him from having his best chances of hurting AJ. The stories of AJ not being in the right frame of body or mind before the fight are nonsense, as with people acting like he has been exposed. All that happened is "Heavyweight boxing" - Ruiz won on the day. I am no AJ fan boy but if AJ didn't try to "finish it" then that point of the fight really was starting to look like the start of a downhill slope for Ruiz, Joshua got too keen forgetting that he was fighting a real live dog and paid for it. I doubt that would happen next time. If he was just a little more systematic then he would have broke Ruiz down, imho.
Well....a kind of IMO. But everybody can have a bad day and a bad night. This can happen to anyone. Lets see if he can make a comeback.
Excellent post. A pretty fair assessment. You have the people on one side of the coin claiming AJ was concussed had a panic attack and you have people on the other side of the coin claiming he has been totally exposed and should hang his gloves up. When, in reality the truth is somewhere in between. Did he look strange in the build up? Yeah a bit. Was he having a panic attack? Doubt it. Was he exposed? Again, yeah a bit. Is it time for him to just pack it in? Nah, again doubt it.
