If I was Wilder after the Ortiz fight I'd go after Ruiz before Fury. If he can get all the belts before the Fury fight and after their first fight, might be 100 million dollar fight. Won't be as big as AJ vs DW but still will be massive. Hell I'd think about telling Ortiz to screw off and getting Ruiz before anyone tries to strip him if AJ doesn't do the rematch. But to answer your question. If I was Wilder. I'd be like let's do it in Mexico City or at least somewhere in Texas. Wilder vs Ruiz would do huge money in Mexico City. That country is crazy about boxing and to have a HW champion finally and an undisputed fight in Mexico City? They would sell out a soccer stadium. it's still central time American so primetime still for American tv. Give him a fan appeal in another country. I would never be worried about travelling if I was Wilder. He doesn't rely on the cards. Mexico City November 2nd during Día de los Muertos. #ChaChing
Wilder is the most popular heavyweight in the US right now. Ruiz soon may be because Mexicans Americans will support him. Your personal view of the Fury--Wilder fight doesn't change that. Fury is also losing traction with the general public by fighting bums and may damage his reputation even more when he wins those mismatches in very boring fashion.
the most logical place is vegas, its where the most money can be generated overall. the whales of the gambling world can be attracted to such events. a single bad night of black jack by one of these whales can pay for every seat at the fight. this allows promoters, and in turn fighters, to get sweeter deals that allow them to keep more of the money. the casinos and the city get their cut from the outside money coming in, so they dont take it from the show itself.
Yeah but I wasn’t talking about popularity. I’m talking legal obligations and who is the best fighter in division based on resume. Wilder’s popularity is on the rise but it doesn’t change fact he has 2 fights lined up with Ortiz and then Fury and Joshua has a rematch clause with Ruiz. So I don’t see a Ruiz vs Wilder fight in foreseeable future. What’s crazy is Wilder after getting soundly outboxed by Fury seems more popular than ever on the strength of one knockdown in final round. Nothing sells like drama even in a losing effort.
Not sure it will be all that big to be fair, Wilder is a proven PPV flop and Ruiz as a PPV fighter is unknown. The selling point of it being a unification fight etc makes it interesting but Wilder is not popular with the casuals and Ruiz has a lot of buzz off the back of the AJ fight but prior to this was a complete unknown away from the hardcore boxing fans.
They will marinate the Wilder Ruiz fight until Wilder is KOed by a cab driver and Ruiz is KOed by a chef.
This would be a great fight. Wilder is as stupid as AJ to trade with ruiz in close range and has defence just as poor, so the fight can go either way. Unpredictability and near certain KO would make a fun, exciting fight.
You guys really need to google 5 minutes on Ruiz. He's won two Jr Olympic Golds for the Mexican National Team, Cuban trained, repped Mexico at the 2008 Olympics.
