Ok, Kovalev did say that. I'm not sure what his sources are though... But, according to him, the first leg of the tournament is planned as Kovalev vs. Beterbiev and Gvozdyk vs. Bivol. Well, Kovalev vs. Beterbiev is more than realistic, but Gvozdyk vs. Bivol..? Which TV network will it be on?
Apparently they’re working on “a solution” , they’ll pay Yarde off. Hopefully anyway, much rather see this tournament than Yarde / kovalev ffs.
No, it's not as simple as that. Don't forget contractual obligations. Top Rank is working with ESPN, and Bivol is with DAZN now. It goes almost without saying that a tournament realistically can't be on two networks (like one fight here and the other over there) because a TV network needs to promote it, so it will want it all for itself. Because of all this I don't believe in such a tournament with Bivol in it, unfortunately...
thats what i thought as well. They don't need to be wbss anyway. toprank has most of the fighters, they can borrow bivol and even marcus brown. top rank fighter is going on dazn
If its next year, Kovolev will probably still take the Yarde fight in August and I'm sure he'll be confidant of winning it. He last fought in Febuary so I'm sure he'll be wanting to fight again this year.
Amir Khan just fought on ESPN. As did Crolla and Campbell will follow suit. So it's not that black and white on Matchrooms part. However Arum did not let his guys take part in previous series. But WBSS series will go where the money goes. If Arum can guarantee a deal with ESPN then I am sure this would happen. WBSS would be a big deal for ESPN and Top Rank. And since Arum holds all the talent at 175, I can see it happening as he holds all the leverage. And Bivol is not some loyalist. If Hearn blocked him from entering, he would eventually leave DAZN.
