The new Rocky & Apollo duo. AJ should get Wlad to teach him the jab and grab style, and managing distance. Wlad would never allow Ruiz into the fight vs him and would back him up.
Maybe Phil Heath, to work on enlarging those muscles more, so he isn't beaten around the ring by the little fatso.
Might be worth getting him in as a consultant... But all he'd need to tell him is to actually throw the jab. He barely uses it, which is astonishing really.
I think Joshua will develop his own style, combo and grab where he throws a combination and then grabs his opponent as fast as he can to avoid counterpunches, just combo and grab all day long.
Would love to see Wlad in his corner. Maybe they can run on the beach too and have a secret 2nd match. Then Joshua will tell Wlad's son "time got him". No exhibition matches for Wlad though.
Wlad wont help much as a chief trainer. Could help in sparring and educate him on it ,hes obviously not doing something right. Joshua is not built for outside fighting ,it consists of in zone countering . Joshua simply needs to train to fight in spurts and continue to be able to exchange shots and not be shell shocked by fatiguing when someone doesn't quit. Almost always the blame is on trainer but its up to the fighter to listen but in this case it was mainly he either lost a lot of his stamina a week before in HARD sparring which can mimick a actual fight or he didn't train right for an aggressive fast combo puncher he needed to keep up with and didn't take into account he had a great chin ( he had to bc those shots Ruiz was hit with were lights out ones) . He needs to stay with his team and do MINOR adjustments ,hes not a Lennox Lewis who needed over 2 years to rebuild with a new trainer, Joshua's physical abilities and style are more to work with where Lewis really needed to lean on ppl and/or control them with holding and hitting much more but he wasn't a counter puncher throwing multiple combos, thats the difference. AJ has untapped potential its up to him to execute it, not the trainer though.
I'm not sure Wlad would want to devote the time to training a boxer but I'm pretty sure the two of them will have a few long chats about how to bounce back from a multi KD stoppage defeat and maybe some tactical insight too. Although after the weekend maybe Wlad will be digging out his gloves....
Maybe not training him but they are the same size with the same sort of issues and strengths and Wlad developed a style that was successful so having him involved in some way would be beneficial..
Nooooo.....we just got rid of the klitschko era that damn near killed boxing. Everything is finally buzzing again. Please for the sake of boxing stay away Wlad. I don’t want years of dull, frightened fighting that was basically cheating. Jab, right, hold, push down. Repeat. Also, how the heck is Wlad going to teach aj to ride out a storm when he’s tagged. Klitschkos losses, maybe apart from sanders, were mainly mental issues or freezing up when tagged
Yes. Well, not as his full time trainer but definitely as a team partner that comes in and works with him a couple times a camp.
Exchanging punches was one of his main undoings in this fight. He absolutely needs to work on fighting better from the outside, and tying people like Ruiz up when their in close, not exchanging with them.
Not astonishing at all. At least against Ruiz. Ruiz slipped and countered the jab and AJ stopped throwing it. He started just flicking it out and started leading with a left hook instead. He also didnt throw uppercuts because he just couldn't deal with that left hook.
