If Sparring partners and Andy Ruiz Jr. gave Joshua anxiety, how bad mentally would Joshua be going into the Wilder fight? Would he go through with it? Would he claim injury, or retire from boxing for a bit?
This is dedicated to all the excuse making AJ fans denying Ruiz full credit. If AJ was truly suffering panic attacks before fighting Ruiz at MSG then this is a legitimate thread. Anxiety doesn't just fix itself, it requires intense therapy. If it is the case that AJ was having Panic Attacks then fighting Wilder his most dangerous opponent in the biggest fight his life may mess with his psyche... Was it an isolated incident before Ruiz a skilled fighter?
I always thought Wilder would have knocked Joshua out cold, and that's before Joshua fought and lost to Ruiz. Wilder's style is wrong for Joshua.
Enough that even before Sat he wouldn't fight him, now he haunts his dreams. I am slowly becoming convinced that a big part of the reason Joshua unravelled in MSG was that Wilder had such a spectacular fight previously. It all got to him. When he couldn't blitz Ruiz out in 3 it all imploded after a week of putting HUGE expectation on himself courtesy of Hearn of course that he needed an emphatic win.
Fury imo will be the worse anxiety case, because the Gypsy will talk his way into Joshua soul. If the fight is in the USA and Joshua chemical regime is monitored by the 17 agencies, then he will get anxiety and fall apart even vs Ivan Calderon or the Argentino guy who likes to hear decisions Withdrawl in PEDs is both psychological and physical, very bad for a boxer as he needs both
