Makes no sense. Why fight dangerous journeyman if you can fight top 30 opponents? Weird decision, I think he wants to test himself amid rumours of Joshua knockdown from Davejko. I think Gasiev thinks Davejko damaged Joshua because of his skills or whatever if that is true than it sounds like complete garbage. Not only that he can suffer concusion or something in this fight, Davejko isn't light puncher. Weird choice.
Wish Gassiev would fight either Breids, Lebedev (again) or the "Russian Hammer". Still a few questions to be answered from the CW tournament.
That's definitely a high risk low reward opponent and if Gassiev can stop him he'll make a huge statement as Dawejko has only been stopped once and that was ages ago and he was trying to fit his boxing in around his job and wasn't taking training or his career as seriously back then. Dawejko is big guy (big in terms of width rather than height- hence ''The Tank'' moniker, 235-250lbs), is slick, very durable indeed, can crack and even when he loses he's ultra competitive and gives you a real hard nights work.
If he cant beat Joey he has no business at top level. He needs a fight like this just like Usyk needs a guy not in top 10 to adjust to weight and opponents weight ( its going to be much different ), should he lose he can make a quick decision to drop back down, the longer he stays at HW the harder it will be to do that. He also looks like hes 30's so I wouldn't put it past him hes going to have hard time cutting back down to CW. You just don't jump into the fire if you rely on size bc he wont have that at HW.
That really is a quite intriguing fight, Gassiev should win it but should be quite a watchable one - not a bad way to move to HW.
When I knocked out Joshua in sparring I made him spin 360 degrees and face plant on the canvas, I heard Joey got a solid 180 so not as good but very formidable. This is a good fight. Dawejko’s coming off a thorough schooling(and BS decision loss) against Kuzmin. He’ll test both Gassiev’s power and his ability to land it against a guy with surprisingly slick defense for his looks, though should we really be surprised anymore?
Dawejko is decent but shouldn't cause any problems to Gassiev if he's fully fit and in shape. I expect 7-3 or 8-2 like scorecards here.
