I love the fact that Ruiz beat AJ. I’m not a AJ hater whatsoever, just love the truth that heavyweight boxing isn’t all about the dude that’s tallest and or best built all the time.

I was just rewatching Kownacki vs Washington and it got me thinking for current and past names of heavys that were good fighters with bad bodies?

Gerry Cooney always impressed me due to how hard he could hit with what appeared to be a gangly clumsy oafish type of body.

What guys spring to your mind?

Heavyweights: Larry Holmes was criticized by Don King and others for not having a heavyweight champ's legs (his were skinny/spindly). Jerry Quarry had a very doughy body after his early 20's and he was still beating decent heavyweights. Buster Mathis Senior and Junior. Buster Douglas had a combination of fat and muscle, even when young. Evander Holyfield said John Ruiz's body was "funky" lol.

Corrie Sanders looked like he could be a McDonalds manager somewhere but was incredibly talented. Sultan Ibragimov was a damn good fighter with a dad bod.

I know neither one of those guys were quite the ‘Super Size Me’ experiments Ruiz is but they were far from statues.

Serves Joshuas team right for being so stubborn about lifting weights, best thing they can do is rip out the gym and get him running more.

I see people cite Kovalev whenever these threads are made, I for one disagree completely. He looks athletic. The average bloke would kill for his body.
