On the whole, they do, let's face it, look at boxers, very few are actually out of shape.

There needs to be the right balance. The bigger the muscles, the more oxygen required.

In regards to AJ, he is what he is, a dangerous heavyweight who doesn't recover quickly when hurt. Klitchsko and Ruiz Jnr proved that to be the case.

Good comparison... except relative to big iosh, Bruno’s chin was crafted from the finest sky iron in all of Svalbard.

In the other weight divisions, the fighters are generally tight at the weight so that they make weight. They can’t afford to be fleshy. The heavyweights can afford to concentrate on boxing skills, they have no need to boil down to make weight.

If I was a boxing coach of a heavyweight I would rather they were doing dancing/aerobic classes instead of lifting heavy weights. Not having a pop at AJ as he is a world class heavyweight but he clearly spends alot of time doing weights were as Fury does alot of work on movement/footwork. It's clear Furys footwork and speed has more of a positive effect than Joshua does with his muscles. Joshua should have stayed same size as when he turned over. He was faster and more explosive and moved better then.

AJ carries far more muscle mass than is optimal and spends too much time on his conditioning.

If you are looking at optimal build then too much muscle empties, and your gas tank empties faster and allows you to do less work.

Some boxers though will invest in having that stripper build for marketing purposes, at the detriment of performance in the ring. As you get to your late 20s and early 30s, you start to slide.

AJ is far too big, doesn’t help his gas tank at all. Probably way too late but something needs to be done.
