Would heavyweight boxing still be popular if the big 3 lost?

I'd still watch it but it would obviously lose some interest.

 

We dont have the big 3 anymore, we have the big 2 and a half.

 

It'd lose the interest of casuals. I already do think it will have taken a hit after last weekend

 

Ruiz is good for casuals

What would be bad for casuals is Usyk clearing out the division, no one would want to watch him outside of the hardcore. The casuals don't understand the brilliance of his style.

 

the heavyweight is garbage, wilder lost to fury, fury can't crack an egg and will deliver another 12 round performance that will remind people of his fight against klitschko and joshua just got his ass kicked by a 270 pound guy who has no discipline.

I think Ruiz is great for the sport / Mexican Support, “Refried Manteca Bean” “Butter Beaner” “Fatty Pacquiao” is great for the casuals , especially if he keeps winning, he could surpass Foreman Grill Money if he plays his cards right.

 

If Ruiz got to where he is now without being disciplined then he is even more amazing than we all think he is.

If he can sit at home eat snickers all day and show up to woop a 6 ft 6 olympic gold muscle bound medallist... being 6 feet tall himself then he is superhuman and does not need discipline.

 

He was fortunate that he popped joshuas eardrum, if it didnt land there he would have gotten knocked out. Same thing with thompson knocking out price.

 

With Ruiz's win, this is gonna bring far more Mexicans into the HW fold. (They're extremely supportive of their countrymen). And I'm getting people at work still asking me about the Ruiz/Joshua fight (which is quite annoying). A severe underdog winning, especially a chubby, jolly guy actually makes more people pay attention.

 

I very much doubt that. I've watched the fight back in 1080p three times. First shot that dropped Ruiz would have KOd most guys.

Ruiz was caught with the same hard shots in the subsequent rounds and still didn't drop because he is effing durable. I believe the first knockdown, whilst a good one, still caught Ruiz by suprise because the pace was still somewhat relaxed, both feeling each other out and testing the waters.

AJ pulled the trigger first, then Ruiz answered back with MORE firepower and MORE speed.

There was NO LUCK involved at all. Ruiz put Joshua down on his arse, four times, and it was all down to pure unadulterated skill.

He has twice the experience of AJ.

 

Ruiz did exactly that and I must admit I'm devastatingly impressed. He looked like he'd have beaten at least a few of the ATGs in that fight imo.

Certainly "lesser" champs like Weaver, Dokes, Thomas, Seldon, etc. would have been rocked.

 

Lol this other poster trying to make it out like it was pure "luck" and yet Ruiz did the same thing four times.

His dad said it best when he said "Touch Ruiz' face and he turns into the devil" that is exactly what I witnessed in that fight, I could see clearly a fire ignite in Ruiz when he got tagged by AJ. I could see the Mexican in him lol, and AJ was simply not used to that intensity/speed/relentlessness of punches.

Ruiz played a smart game in staying close to AJ on exchanges, making it hard for the longer, lengthier AJ to fully extend on his shots.

 

There was a moment in time (end of December 95/early 96) when Frank Bruno (WBC), Bruce Seldon (WBA) and Frans Botha (IBF) were the heavyweight champions and all took a photo together with their belts draped over their shoulders. I have it one of my magazines.

This is when Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, George Foreman, Michael Moorer, Ray Mercer and Tommy Morrison were all active.

Boxing has a way of sorting itself out.

 

They could all lose however it doesn't change the fact Wilder vs Joshua should be a cracking fight that would last no more than 4 rounds.
