No it's not a case of that ,it's just saying just because a fighter didn't get a great win doesn't mean in another era he couldn't . Based on record s alone u can't say for sure . Look at Henry Cooper before he faced Ali . Did his record give any indication he'd end up ALMOST koin g one of the most durable chin s in history ?
Yep aware of that , but not my point . Just because someone s record is nt all that , doesn't mean their incapable of pulling of an upset . Floyd was a lot greater fighter than Bert ,no question about it but put him in with a motivated ,fit Cooper then I wouldn't count him out .Ask Mr Ruiz jnr !
Patterson had sublime skills and speed and but once hit like Terry Norris and Holyfield he found himself in fierce fire fights. Cooper nails Patterson who has to survive a knockdown or two to rally and stop Cooper in 10 rds .
One notable difference is that Ruiz was already a solid contender and showed the makings of a guy who might get a belt at some point, whereas Bert Cooper's career had all the signs of a journeyman's career.
An upset isn’t out of the question here. Bert definitely hurt and did damage some durable and elite fighters.
Odds would probably favor Floyd, but Cooper would definitely give Patterson all he could handle, seeing as Floyd wasn't exactly invincible. It's hard to imagine Cooper actually beating such a revered boxer, but I would favor him against Floyd. Cooper came out and stunned Moorer in no time; Floyd would have trouble with that. Floyd does not do well against fast starters like that. However, I can still see Floyd's superior speed, mobility, stamina, and experience winning him the fight by decision like he did Chuvalo or late TKO. I say Cooper by knockout in the middle of a wild fight, that probably sees two canvas-loving heavies on the floor time and again.
The Atomic bull said Cooprer was the hardest puncher he met in the ring his left hook the most potent punch he ever tasted. A man who shared the ring with the likes of Tyson and Lennox... Come to think of it Holyfield cleary has the same opinion something about his "body language" tasting Coopers punch compared to Tyson and Lewis's... Just some food for thought.
wish Atomic Bull and Cooper had thrown down; not a more subtle matchup. Fight may have topped Cooper's all-time legendary trilogy.
