AJ just wasnt all that, or was caught by surprise unprepped for someone of Ruiz attributes.
We'll find out soon enough. Maybe AJ will simply retire to open a hairdressers.

We just dont know till then.

We knew he had big technical flaws and a great offense going in.

We now know that at least one fighter in the division can overcome the offense.

Smith is huge. I think 10-15 pounds would be standard. Calzaghe seems like a guy who would go the Ricky Hatton route between fights.

When I boxed I could run half a marathon easy mode, was always gassed by the 3rd round. Did HIIT, hill runs, sprints etc etc. 12 rounds is by far harder than a marathon, at least for me it was anyways.

As for Ruiz he has fast hands but he is not quick. RJJ is quick, Tyson is quick, their whole body moved and reacted fast. Ruiz has slow movement overall but fast hands which doesn’t have weight on it.

No doubt the fat is a hinderance but it’s just like everything else, so is being short, short reach, weak chin, no power, slow - yet people still become champions with those. Same thing with Ruiz, he’s a champ in spite of the disadvantage of being fat.

Some people would have you believe that fat > muscle, simply not true specially if you understand human anatomy.

but what about your shoulders??? Didn't your shoulders burn like crazy after a few rounds? thats what I remembered when I sparred, it was hard to even hold your hands up, let alone throw big punches.

Only if you’re new. After a while the shoulders or keeping hands up isn’t an issue. What is an issue is legs, your legs feel like jelly and that’s pretty rough since you can’t generate power without it. That’s why fighters throw “arm punches” after they gas with no pop.

That’s the other main difference, in a marathon if your legs feel like jelly thats fine, just let the momentum keep moving you forward. Far different than asking them to explode to throw a punch or close/create distance.
