I do not think Herbie had the psychological make up to compete in such a big fight. Physically he has better of it, and pure boxing skills, he does compare. But Toney learned in the ring, Herbie just relied on exceptional talent.
Hide was nowhere skilled as Toney P4P when Toney fought McCallum, Hide was never in the ring with anyone near McCallum`s ability P4P, what Hide lacked in fundamentals he almost made up for in speed and Toney was far slower at heavyweight.
But OP is asking about a potential fight at Heavyweight. And Toney had lost a step physically at that weight, whilst Hide did have world class speed and very decent power at his Heavyweight pomp.
Toney's roid-ridden venture into the big boy class is vastly overrated. Rahman and Peter schooled him. Holy was a .500 fighter at that point. There's just not much meat on the bone. Herbie hit like a truck according to Bowe. I don't think Toney is KO'ing Hide and that Herbie gets enough of his respect to do the leading and not get a lot of counters in return after 4 or 5 rounds.
Hide didn`t punch harder than Peter, I feel Toney could have easily taken his shots and countered him everytime he was out of position.
Holy still had a better chin than Hide even though he was older, I feel Toney would have stopped the fragile Hide, he was too small for heavyweight and even though Toney was smaller he took a heavyweight shot far better than Hide did.
I feel Jones might have beat Herbie at heavyweight and was faster, you can`t compare Herbie P4P to the middleweight Jones, he was on another planet to Hide.
Toney is/was all wrong for Hide. Herbie kept those hands lower than anyone in the sport. He is not getting an early ko over this guy & after about 6 or 8 rounds, the fatigue factor has set in and that horrible hand placement somehow gets worse. Toney will come through with some clean right hands and get a few knockdowns & the ref will step in and wave it off. tko rounds 10-12. One guy runs the 100 meter dash and the other guy is a marathon runner. But it is a 12k run & it plays into one guys strength and one guy's weakness. For Herbie, he needs a 3 round amateur bout and then he gets his hand raised
true, certainly pref to herbie fully loaded, with that drug fiend teen mascarading as a lovable disney chik.
Toney would win, but it would not be as easy as you make out. Even in his pomp, speed was Toney's Kryptonite.
That's right ,Toney did tend to struggle against the speedy guy s . I've got Hide well out in front till the latter round s but Toney managing to claw back the lead , then dropping Hide and getting a decision .
