In a way Roman Gonzalez's status as the top P4P fighter in the world was short lived. Sergey Kovalev's run as the top LHW fighter was also pretty short as well.
Good choice. M Hilton looked liked the goods and his future appeared very bright, with the chance to make a ton of money. Unfortunately, the entire family seems to have been infected with a giant stupidity gene, with Matthew being no exception.
Benitez was around a long time. A world champ at 17. He was in a lot of big fights, Leonard, Hearns, Cervantes, Hope and Duran.
There was a jr. welterweight in the mid-80s named Frankie Warren that looked like the goods. A complete Henry Armstrong style. He bursts on the scene and in one year beats Buddy McGirt, Gene Hatcher, Ronnie Shields, Sammy Fuentes and Roberto Elizondo. He totally dominated McGirt in their 10 rounder (I scored it 7-1-2 for Frankie) and looked like he was on his way. But fighting for the vacant title, a complete reversal of fortunes and he gets schooled by McGirt in their rematch. He still pulls off a win or two - most notably over Mickey Ward - but loses to Loreto Garza in a bout where he looked nothing like what he once did, and he was done. I heard he retired due to a detached retina, but if you compare him against Shields and then Garza, it wasn't the same fighter. That perpetual motion will burn out the best of them.
