Rumours in the Boxing Circle that Joshua could leave MatchroomRuiz

Think Joshua has got bigger things to worry about at the minute. He needs to defeat Ruiz in the rematch or his career is pretty much over. Then he can focus on his contract situation (if there is one).

Also didn’t Joshua get shares in Matchroom last time he signed?

 

Hearn’s role is probably leaning towards consultancy rather than promotion. I’d imagine on the last deal signed that Joshua is calling the shots.

 

Without Hearn would it be easier to make the Fury fight with a cross BT/SKY promo?

 

No because Joshua still has an exclusive deal with SKY.

Fighters need to stop signing these exclusive deals as it’s just a hindrance more than anything.

I think if they ever were to fight they need to sit down and say to each other we will on x split, on whichever UK channel gives us the most money and whatever US channel gives us the most money - but again this would have to be done outside of these contracts they’ve both signed.

It wouldn’t surprise me though, if AJs Management were trying to reduce Hearns percentage in a new deal.

He could well leave. Boxers leave promoters and go elsewhere or alone. The AJ thing though has happened before with no real substance behind it. Last time it was Nigerian millionaires, Dana Whyte, AJ promotions etc etc. No real source was ever provided just people coming up with any scenario possible to explain why he would leave matchroom.

On the percentage thing, as far as I know it's very very little which matchroom take.

I can't imagine 15% being much more than what other promoters take.

 

I doubt he'll go 'solo' he co promoted a Okile card i think a year or so back and has since said he didn't enjoy that side of things and would rather let Hearn do that stuff for him.

 

That’s exactly what i think. I cringe when i hear “Hearn has made Joshua money” Hearn hasn’t made him nowt. It’s Joshua who’s made all that bread with his own hard work. In reality Joshua’s brand is big enough and has been since the Parker fight to do it on his own while cutting out another middleman from the payroll.

 

It's far more cringey that some people actually believe Hearn is AJ's boss and AJ has no final say on who and when he fights.

The idea that a fighter who generates enough revenue to get paid minimum $20 mil per fight working on a 85-15 split with a promoter is not in control is quite simply ridiculous.
