Best UK fighters that never won a world title

Oscar Rivas is a C level fighter? I don't think many will agree with you on that, not even the boxing experts and fighters themselves.

 

Im not saying he didn't, but he never fought enough big names to be considered as one of the best to never win a world title.

He couldn't beat Manning Galloway for the at the time lowly regarded WBO strap, he had talent and potential i agree but never fully utilized it.

From leftfield....Vernon Sollas - a joy to watch and ridiculously unorthodox but unfortunately no defence if you could actually hit him -

 

I would of put my house in kev Mitchell from his 130lb days going all the way. However he seemed to lose his way and never quite fulfilled his potential.
Bomber Graham and as has been pointed out, Murray should of won that fight vs Martinez but I think overall Martin is 9ne of those who fits the "fringe" bracket

 

Usyk does nothing for Whyte at this stage, why should he throw Usyk a bone? He has no ranking to offer Whyte, and had little exposure to the UK

Also, Fury boxed his head off, twice, one fight almost entirely at southpaw and made him quit. I know you’ll say that Haye didn’t ‘proper’ bingo him but it should have been a proper KO on the record that one imo.

He did very well with Parker, and used every trick in the book to beat him. Leaning him over the ropes and refusing to move back off him with the very weak Ian John-Lewis allowing it to happen, especially when he was on the verge of being stopped.

 

Well to each their own, but it was right imo for a TKO to be listed for Haye and a KO for Whyte.

TKOs happen all the time, and are all different.

KO like whyte is pure unconciousness and far bigger statement... just seeing Don charles praying for chisora to wake up will stick with me forever.

 

Usyk is actually automatically WBO mandatory at heavyweight. So he actually holds more cards at heavyweight than Dillian lol.


Plus hes arguably p4p number 1, at least top 3, and is known in the Uk from the Bellew fight. So theres plenty to gain from Whyte beating him, it's a clear duck.

 

Gary Mason was a top fighter too.

 

A nice story but wrong. The BBC put this to bed a number of years ago, by releasing the live Radio feed. Ali was given an extra 10 seconds. The glove was already ripped, all Dundee did was draw attention to it. The ref made Dundee tape it up, hence the delay.

Graham, Watson, Bugner and Cooper are the first four that come to mind.

Cooper and Dundee, in particular, were great story tellers, and the myth of the replaced glove (it was not) and the extra minute (it was ten seconds) is, because of that story telling, still going strong.

It was always nice to hear from the generation, and you rightly expected a bit of 'poetic licence' in their stories. Not least Cooper and cuts!

Sir 'enry was a good heavy, as shown, a world class left hook got him a long way in a fairly (relatively, for Heavies) strong era.

But his problems were not so much cuts, but being Stopped/KO'd (which he was four times). From 57 to his retirement Cooper only lost on cuts to Ali. And these cuts were produced by punches not heads or fouls.
