Why is Alexander Povetkin so highly regarded by the folks on this forum?

I would guess it is because he has been a solid HW for a number of years.
    Wins over -
    27-1-1 Chagaev
    30-0 Chambers
    27-0 Wawrzyk
    31-1 Takam
    26-1 Charr
    Hammer
    etc

Sure he lost against Wladimir who is an ATG and who was on an impressive run and lost away to Joshua who up to that point had also been very impressive but he has been a solid HW.
Consider also how fighters like Duhaupas are considered by some to be a decent win for Wilder and Povetkin also has beaten him.

I think like Pulev, Povetkin has been a very solid tough HW to beat.

As for the comments about Joshua, I think it is very harsh and unfair. I have said many times and you can look at my thread and post history before Joshua lost that Joshua I think has had it very draining with how he has been built up rather than taking a longer slower road than Wilder.
Every Joshua HW title fight has been a big event and with a fighter with so few fights to have unified 3 of the 4 big titles, I think he has done well.
When I say I think it must have been draining, consider that in every single one of Joshuas world title fights, his opponent has had more pro fights than he has had. Every one, yet the majority of them have not had to go through so many draining events or taken as many big fights that he has had.

Wada decides what athletes can take medication on a case to case basis. They did not approve Povetkin to take meladonium.

Wada have a watch list of drugs that are yet to be banned. Because they are yet to be banned doesn't mean its legal for an athlete to take them.

I like watching some of Povetkin's fights, but I think his chin is overrated. He just couldn't handle Wlad's or Joshua's power.
Wlad even floored him with a jab.

None of that really disputes anything i said.

However, the council opted not to ban the Russian because of “the impossibility to scientifically prove that Mr. Povetkin ingested meldonium after January 1, 2016” when the drug was included on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)’s list of forbidden substances.

He may have been cleared but taking meladonium cost him the Wilder fight. It shouldn't have been in his system , he shouldn't have been taking ANY it is my point.
It isn't Wilder fault either yet he takes more of the blame for it on than Povetkin does.

Please search for a reason WHY THAT JANUARY 1, 2016 DATE IS SO IMPORTANT if you can't make the increbibly obvious and simple connection with what I and others mentioned.
It's all out there and discussed many times.
If you can't find it then that's on you, and this will me my final reaction.

povetkin fans must be the only ones in any sport who blame POv's opponent for Pov taking PEDs.
