Why is Alexander Povetkin so highly regarded by the folks on this forum?

Made Wilder run home scared like a little girl, if you don't like him for that alone you need your balls cut off and shoved up your arse..

I can see where the OP is coming from but don't see things the same way at all.

His amateur career was outstanding, as in amazing. defeated Cammarelle multiple times I think. World Championships and Olympic SH gold.

Turned pro (which I followed with interest at the time) and stepped up the pace quickly ... fought Ahuyana in his first year, beat Byrd when he was not far off his prime Chambers and some other solid HWs in his first few years, later beat Chagaev (who had beaten Virchis (tough guy), Valuev and Ruiz) ... finally took on absolutely prime Wlad and went the distance with a lot a clinching and negative tactics from Wlad. After that loss went on a rampage dominating a string of solid second tier fighters, lost to a peak Joshua at the age of 38 after putting up a good fight.

Trumps Wilder's and Fury's current CV IMO. Respect where it's due. Why wouldn't someone like this be respected in comparison to the other HWs out there at the moment.

Honestly anyone who thinks the PED charges on Povetkin were anything more that trumped up charges to protect Wilder having to hand over his belt are either complete morons or riding low down on Wilder's hairy nut sack...

If fact one does not seem to be mutually exclusive..

Not his best performance, but, so what, fighters do have off nights. Try watching that fight again. There's no way you can score it for Huck; it was close but clear imo.

And fought Chagaev, but let's not mention that.

Except for the bums he has destroyed are hyped up to the skies just before he smashed them (Perez) or touted as good wins when other people beat them (Duhaupas, Takam) or have an actual belt right now (Charr).

The PED case for him was rather weak IMO. The most minute trace of heart medicine, don't get me wrong, if it's illegal it's illegal but it's not like he got caught Miller style doing some hardcore steroids.

Putting aside the meldonium, wasn't Pov caught for using ostarine (SARM)?

Yep, the SARM case was legit (still not the heaviest stuff) but the meldonium case was bullsiht to save Windmill:

"Studies conducted by World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) were issued in June 2016, informing all that test results showing less than 1.0 microgram per milliliter (µg/mL) of Meldonium were to be deemed as a finding of no fault to the offending participant.

Povetkin’s “A” sample produced 0.07 µg/mL, while the “B” sample showed 0.072 µg/mL, roughly 14% of the maximum tolerable amount as deemed by WADA."

Fury had done his time, and is a bigger threat than Povetkin who was then currently cheating on PEDs.

    You make no sense.

WHat Ortiz served time for before isnt relevant to banning him for a new fight after his ban. Ortiz was on thiazides for blood pressure. They are not performance enhancing, the only way Ortiz might have used them to pee out PEDS for beating tests.

You appear to have a problem understanding "HISTORY of PEDS" that they paid for in full (fury and Ortiz), and current use of PEDs, which Povetkin did. Povetkins crime is the one that needs paying for.

It's true. That's why the Stiverne (who got busted himself weeks earlier) fight was off.
The Meldonium thing was a wash, the Ostarine thing wasn't.

Still, what I already mentioned, you can hold it against rating him of course, but then you can't rate someone like Fury anymore either, or a large number of past legends.
You can't have it both ways.

Povetkin is a beast, that's why. He's the best non-Klitschko of the Klitschko era. Literally the #3 HW of an approximate 15 year stretch (yes, I know the era is trash; nonetheless). He is historically underrated, actually, by a notable margin for most.
