You do realise that the people that only come out for the glitzy events, the big names are the ones that are the casuals!?!?!?! oh the irony !! Its the ones that attend the small shows and fighters at different levels that are the diehards, its the casuals that attend the "best v best" that send ticket prices through the roof and make it harder for the die hards to get tickets... All cos some high roller wanted to bring his make up drowned tart and both turn up 5 mins before the main event and the true fan asking touts for any spares if they can afford them
Probably pretty well in fairness. Fighting all the way in Vegas against a no-hoper was never going to do that well. I'd say he's probably the second most popular British boxer at the moment. Just a shame that promoters are so fixated on cracking america.
If you think this taken-in-isolation stat means anything you're mistaken. Formally 27 stone, mentally ill alcoholic Tyson Fury schooled your top guy after 3 years out
Not fantastic, but not bad. For perspective, Ward-Dawson was at Oracle and sold more tickets (7,611) with a lower gate ($706k) and that involved two regarded US champs, one of whom is still the last male US gold medalist, in that gold medalist's home town. The next one will be bigger- Fury pretty much checked every box he had to to build his profile here between the performance itself & his out of the ring personality.
While it may be true that only 5489 tickets were sold, it must be taken into account that those tickets were Lineal.
Just want to remind you that ESPN wants to remind you again that Tyson Fury is THE LINEAL champion. He's so lineal that the failed drug test (the second one, not the first from 8 months before the Wlad fight [which I will remind you in case you forgot was for the lineal title]), 2.5 years inactive, and dozens of times informing everyone he was retired during that inactivity is apparently not enough to remove the lineal title. That's how lineal he is. Fury is so lineal, he broke all previous standards of being lineal.
Putting on a bum show in Vegas and selling 5500 tickets ain't that shabby tbf. Once bitten twice shy though.
If it weren't for us Brits travelling to USA tinpot venues then the atmosphere of the 54 yanks who bothered to turn up would be shite. USA fans in all sports are ****ing shite. They go for the hot dogs and selfies.
