Mickey Ward Injin Chi - crazy tough chin. Think it was the Morales fight where he was getting hit by flush hooks and huge combos, but just tapped his gloves, smiled and moved forward inviting more.. Not seen many take punches like that.
Mayorga? Nah, no way. Don't get me wrong he's tough in a badass kinda way, but he's been ko'ed too many times.
Apart from the knockdown against Jermaine. Oh, and getting buckled by Dirrell. Oh wait, that almost fight ending KD in the first round of the Groves fight (And the leg buckles throughout). I'm just kidding, he is a tough mofo, but there is the above to factor in though...and also I think he clearly let Groves get to him mentally to the point he doubted himself in that first fight.
Nobody ever got out of a ring after a fight with Sandy Saddler and said, “‘That was a pleasant experience.”
Also, is it worth throwing Juan Manual Marquez in here? Sure he's been down a few times but he's never been on the verge of a stoppage and I think in every fight he went down in he came back to win (apart from the one draw and the FMJ fight). He just keeps fighting back no matter what happens.
There must have been plenty of these guy kicking about pre TV etc , most used to fight every week or so over 20 plus rounds many of them probably went through large parts of careers permanently concussed I should imagine .
Cleveland Williams ...shot by a patrol cop with a 357 magnum , FOUR operations later he still had bullet fragments in his hip , two years later after losing and regaining 60 lbs scored a first round KO upon his ring return then fighting ( but being somewhat outclassed by a certain Muhammed Ali in 66 ) . Genuine end thread contender .
