Its a bit of a hard one to work out how much was Ruiz boxing like a champ as opposed AJ choosing the worst possible game plan against him..

Probs a bit of both but I can guarantee AJ won't be trading hooks with Ruiz in the rematch.. If he wants to have any chance he need to stay behind a long jab and move away out of trouble.

If this works is the million dollar question!! I don't think Ruiz's weight will have any bearing if he keeps it around the 260 make cause its his natural weight...

I think Ruiz was totally underestimated by most (especially by AJ's team). Those from this part of the world knew otherwise given we all saw the Parker fight and knew he was fast and could box. I was a bit surprised that he had the power to knock down AJ as he hasn't really shown that side..

Now he probs has become a bit over rated as he outboxed AJ but AJ isn't a great boxer so as the Parker fight showed Ruiz can be outboxed, especially when he tires.

I think if he gets past AJ he is going to struggle if he comes up against Wilder of Fury.

Wilder because well it just takes one shot and Fury because he isn't going to fight Riuz like a complete moron..

Great post mate especially reference AJ not trading hooks he really does need to keep Ruiz on a long jab however he can't be just content in scoring with the jab and here imo lies his problem as sooner or later he will have to get brave and that's when he will become susceptible to the speed of Ruiz , that and AJ ain't got the best of fuel tanks on him .

I didn't say the world will end I just said it would be detrimental to the division having Parker slip down the rankings and being replaced by a 40 years old fella who's only chance is a Hail Mary shot as I enjoy the sport and want it to be as strong as it can be , unlike your self ....a clueless , argumentative fan boy idiot .
Btw Alex is a Samoan born Australian citizen by way of New Zealand ( like here in Wales Australia doesn't really produce world class heavies ) so you are NOT " supporting an Aussie " ....idiot .

I've only ever seen Daniel Lewis fight once & that was his pro debut. I was impressed though b/c the guy he was in with was an experienced Muay Thai fighter who obviously knew his way around a boxing ring. Lewis presented as physically very strong & a hard puncher with genuine skill.

I think the raw materials are there for him to go far as a pro although of course he needs the right development fights coming up through the ranks. Fortunately, there's plenty of decent opposition for him to face at middleweight / junior middle in this country to get his career moving in the right direction.

He has significantly more amateur experience than Tim Tszyu with 150 fights to his name as opposed to Tszyu's 30-something. His international experience in fighting at Commonwealth & Olympic games will count for plenty also. He did beat Tim Tszyu in the amateurs although Tszyu also holds wins over him. From what I understand, all of their fights were close & occurred a long time ago (around 2011ish while they were both very young). Lewis has certainly gained much more experience fighting in the amateurs since then while Tszyu is making good progress as a pro.

I wouldn't want to see them matched up together as pros in the short term but I'm very interested to follow their progress to see how far each can go. I think both guys are talented enough to fight for world titles one day. Hopefully one of them will win one.

I have a feeling that Parker is going to annihilate Leapai within the first two rounds.

Some gems here in this update from Juppity.

We get to see the Joseph Parker v Alex Leapai shootout plus the guy Andrew Moloney will likely challenge for a world title plus a middleweight title fight. All next Sunday afternoon.

Horndog v Michael Zerafa is a great addition to the local scene. More international exposure for Bendigo. Should have Yankee Doodle Dandy tourists flocking to the Victorian goldfields with their metal detectors in no time. It also builds on Andrew Moloney & Tim Tszyu's appearances there last year.

Bendigo is becoming the big fight capital of Victoria.

I think Horndog's schedule is likely to be Zerafa in Bendigo in August (now confirmed) & then the winner of the Rob Brant v Ryota Murata rematch.

A win there & Horndog will be in the frame for GGG or Canelo. Very ambitious but not beyond the realm of possibility.

The challenge for Alex is to make the fight worth watching while it lasts.

If he can do that & take it past a couple of rounds, he will have done well.

It won't be easy but they're bringing him out there for a fight & that's what he needs to make it.

A lot on here are talking about Leapai's 'puncher's chaNCE'. Personally I don't see it. If the man with arguably the hardest left hook in Dillian Whyte couldn't rustle Parker's feathers then I doubt Leapai at this stage can land a ko blow. Parker can box a bit too and let's not forget Malik Scott won every round vs a near prime Leapai. I think Leapai accepted the fight as the Molina substitute with the worst money problems so to speak. Don't expect this to go more than 3 imo.
