I finally watched Joe Calzaghe-Jeff Lacy in its entirety. Lacy's corner did him no favours as Calzaghe painfully dissected him round after round. Lacy took a one sided beating and if his corner had pulled him in the first half of the fight they might have saved his career. Lacy never totally recovered his confidence or poise after this fight. He was projected to be one of boxing's rising stars and that all went away after this beatdown.
I don't really see that in those fights, though the Biggs fight was a bit like watching someone pulling the wings off a fly.
The amount of body shots and uppercuts landing especially in the Ferguson fight was painful to watch.
I remember feeling that way going into the Big John Tate-Gerrie Coetzee heavyweight title fight. I was afraid Coetzee was going to KO Tate early. At the time, Coetzee was coming off a first round KO of Leon Spinks, and there was so much talk about Coetzee's "bionic" right hand. Was pleasantly surprised to see Tate handle Coetzee convincingly.
I was genuinely worried for Holyfield going into the first Tyson fight. I thought Holyfields huge heart and courage would see him seriously hurt against Mike, on the back of his dire showing against Bobby Czyz and his alarming Bowe 3 display. In fact I watched the entire undercard and sh1t it and left my mates in Crown Casino in Melbourne when the fight began, expecting them to meet me in a few minutes after Tyson obliterated Evander. I was kept waiting and manned up and ventured in, in about round 6 (in time for Holyfield to drop Tyson) and enjoyed watching Evander pull off a huge upset. A great boxing memory for me.
I felt this way for Fury Wilder. Thought Fury might get laid out very early. He showed that whatever you may think of him he’s a brave SOB for sure.
I've seen Mancini vs. Kim, Pintor vs. Owen, and Griffith vs. Paret, plus a bit of Scypion vs. Classen. I don't need to ever see any of those again. But even non-fatal fights, like Holmes vs. Ali or C0oney vs. Norton, I don't really need to ever see again either.
The exhibition between Mayweather and that Japanese teenager was unpleasant for me to watch, it felt like I was watching my dad beat up my brother. Quarry vs Frazier was also sad when quarry was visibly very hurt and not himself at all, and then Frazier tried to call the referee to stop it. Ali Holmes was one of the worst examples I could think of. I love to see a good fight, but I hate to see anyone get hurt for life, I really hate to see sadism in general.
