Could we be reading too much into this loss?

    I don't think it's necessarily either.

Andy Ruiz Jr. had a solid game plan going in, and he also had the skills, the focus, and the heart to effectively implement that game plan. I think AJ losing had more to do with Ruiz than anything else.

No, he was exposed . He skating on thin ice and getting by on his atheletiscim. He had too many close call prior to the Ruiz fight that showed (Or should have shown) He was on borrowed time. if one look past the fact of him winning all those prior fights, and looked at how he actually performed in them. The many close calls against average competition, or old men he was bound to get exposed. His fight game was very suspect ( like his chin) He just got exposed for what he is. And that's not much.

Now remember, people likely would've said the same about Tyson after his loss to Douglas, but looking back, Tyson is known today as an ATG and H2H monster who likely would've been counted on to beat many ATG's.

    Yes it was a fluke.

AJ has proven he's the best by beating Old Washed up Champions & One Armed Whyte. Gary Corncash was the thriller at the O2.

It was a fluke AJ had diarrhea because the Drake curse & MSG.

    This. Nice post.

Although I would say that AJs lack or boxing IQ did become a bit more apparent. A simple clinch from someone as big and strong as AJ would have negated a lot of what Ruiz was doing... but AJ just covered up instead.

Also, trying to throw combos with a faster fighter thats a better combination puncher than you, is a recipe for disaster and completely unnecessary.

So for me it did highlight some flaws in his boxing IQ, but overall I do agree with you.

    He was exposed.

Say he got tagged a bit by ruiz and looked a bit lackluster you could say he had an off night.

Say he was schooling ruiz but got lazy and was put out by a perfect shot which he should never have been in a position to get hit by. You could say he had an off night.

But that's not what happened is it.

He was beaten in every aspect and didn't recover in 4 rounds from a shot from Andy ruiz who isn't even really a massive puncher.

He showed a weak chin, poor boxing IQ, poor defence, and a weak mindset.

All of these things cannot be chalked up to an off night.

We have all seen some serious flaws in AJs game against Whyte, referee neutered Parker, 40 year old Wlad and old Povetkin

Ruiz Jr was the man with the balls to go hell for leather and exploit those flaws. At AJs age he isnt going to be able to turn back time and correct those flaws, he can only improve his defence so much.

Unless Ruiz is stupid enough to sign to fight AJ in the UK where the judges and referee will be on AJs side then its the same result a second time.

    Agree.

He is pretty much domestic journeyman level, he just got by on luck mostly against shot fighters long past due for retirement.

And this time I see Ruiz doing it in 1 or 2 rounds. I honestly won't be surprised if Joshua is gone inside a minute now ruiz knows he doesn't have anything to fear and that AJ is a useless fighter

AJ was careless when he started throwing haymakers and got caught by a punch to the temple. After that temple punch, it caused a concussion, thus allowed Ruiz to do whatever he wanted after round 3.

It was a bit of both.

I watched some of his earlier fights recently, and it was hard to believe that this was the same guy.

Compare him after he gets up before the stoppage to Fury.

Fury is really fighting to stay in the fight, and AJ accepts his dismissal like a naughty boy being sent to his room.

That aside, Ruiz showed us what was staring us in the face the whole time, that we never quite picked up on.

Joshua is a sucker for a left hook!

Even if he gets his act together, a future opponent will have a blueprint for beating him.

Looking forward to seeing everybody getting rich from the rematch as Joshua is still heavy favourite.

My reading comprehension must suck this morning. Ruiz hasn’t fought Fury? Which knockdown do you mean when you wrote Fury?
