    Having seen the thread best UK fighters to never win a title, I thought the polar opposite would be fun. Now I know this title sounds extremely unrespectful so to the names I can think of I don't mean they are bad boxers, they can't be to be near a title. So my examples will be
    George groves;
    For me groves was a quality fighter, but I never thought he was the man of his weight class, there was always someone better. I love watching groves and I'm happy he did get a world title in the end, it wasn't for a lack of perciverance and I think he was lucky to only have to beat Chudinov to do so.
    Frank Bruno;
    Bruno was before my time and again I love the man to bits, but I think 4 attempts at a world title is thanks to a promoter determined to see him get a world title.
    Maybe controversial my next one.
    Anthony Joshua.
    He did appear to be the man, but I always said there's so many unanswered questions with him; until the Ruiz fight. Martin has to be the worse challenger for a title I have ever seen lose his title live. Having seen him go to war with Kowanaki since, I think he took a dive. Having seen Ruiz tear Joshua apart I believe Parker would have done so with a different ref.
    That's all from me, would love to see examples from people more knowledgeable than myself

    No way in a million years should Groves or Joshua feature anywhere near this thread.

    Michael Bentt is my immediate thought,but even he was a decent amateur who beat a good heavyweight to win his title.

    As much as I love him Stuey hall and also Lee Haskins would be in the lowest tier along with Alex Arthur,Brian Magee who both ‘won’ out of the ring before swiftly losing them.Nicky Cook,even Enzo Mac would qualify bar his very good performance v Wayne Braithwaite.Loads of WBO titleists,Liam Smith,Herbie Hide,Terry Flanagan never proved to be world class etc etc

    At a push I'd say Fielding, but it wasn't a real World Title and he did build himself well following the Smith defeat.

    Charlie Edwards springs to mind but he has done well for himself. He hadn't done enough to earn that first World Title shot and he was lucky to get another so soon given the level of opponents he was facing.

    Joshua? No wayyyyyy

    Random british champs are coming to my head and joshua is better than all of them:

    Crolla, Bellew, Groves, Enzo, Liam Smith, Burns, the list goes on.

    Barry Jones is up there with Stuey Hall and Haskins.

    At Super Middleweight, BJS, no question. One fight at that weight against a bum and he's a World Champ.

    Because he beat David lemiuex and Christopher Livingstone Eubank Jr

    Ya gonna have to do better than that

    On topic, of well known ones Bruno and Groves are top of the list, both failed time and time again until managing to scrape over the line vs weak opposition.

    Realistically both guys only got repeated title fights due to their popularity, and there's been better fighters who never got one title shot.

    One of the worst was Ricky Burns at LWW, I believe he wasnt even in top 6 in Britain at the weight. If you are looking at his career as a whole he certainly should not be on the list but if looking specifically at Ricky Burns the LWW he should be right up there

    The OP is ridiculous. Joshua and Groves were/are clearly elite.

    I’d say Ricky Burns. Very limited. There’s nothing outstanding about him. His best quality is his engine which says it all.

    Crolla is a good shout as is Fielding but Fielding never won a full world title as far as I’m concerned. Lee Haskins maybe.

    These threads can be a little sensitive but then again, we all know when a world title win is devalued by the means of victory or quality of opponent.

    Groves come on only lost to world champions Joshua one defeat and he’s written off granted he’ll never beat Fury but one of our worst world champions I’d say Arthur and Paul Jones are a shout

    Anyone saying either Anthony Joshua or Billy Joe Saunders is blinded by their personal dislike of either fighter. Both are world class. Joshua may not be at the level of Fury or Lewis but is still arguably the 3rd best ever British heavyweight. As for BJS, he is one of the most skilful british boxers of all time.

    Gavin Rees for me, and I was a big fan. He had a stellar career, but was short of world level by quite a margin in my opinion. Although in saying that, from memory it was the WBA he won, can't remember if it was the world champion or the "world champion" version.
