Okay, when people talk about the decline of boxing they often point the finger at the ‘alphabet soup’ titles, a revolving door of champions and too many unnecessary weight divisions. So my question to everybody out there is which weight divisions would you think the fight game would be better of without or how should the current system should be changed or altered?

On the smaller end there are a lot of stupid weight divisions with only a few pounds between them, like super featherweight or junior flyweight. I don’t see why the welterweight division 140-147 had to be chopped into super lightweight and welter. The cruiserweight division cut the heavyweight talent pool in half, historically the best heavies have been between roughly 190 and 220. Today the big heavies don’t have to face the small heavyweight and with guys like Miller, Kownacki, Fury, Ruiz, Ortiz, Stiverne etc. it’s looking more and more like an overweight division. But then I guess a limit of 175 for the light heavies would leave a big unfair gap so maybe cruiser should be capped at 190?

Use the divisions they use in the Amateur system, with maybe one more to in and around cruiserweight.
That would make 11 weight classes, getting rid of 6, which is fine by me.

UFC does just fine with 8.

    Amateur weight classes.

    108lbs
    115lbs
    123lbs
    132lbs
    141lbs
    152lbs
    165lbs
    178lbs
    200lbs
    201+

Id personally fudge 178 and 200, and stick another category in there, maybe moving HW up to 215

They seem to have lot of problems with weight cuts in the UFC, but that might be down to poor discipline. The amateurs have a super heavyweight class, but I think that’d Just confuse the public even further, carving up the one division the whole world pays attention to doesn’t seem very wise. Maybe they’ve should cap HW at 230 or something?

Cruiserweight, 168, and 154 are all mediocre divisions that water down the heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, and welterweight divisions. It’ll never happen, but boxing could do without those three divisions.

Cruiserweight for sure. It's a useless division even though there are good fighters there. Ffs pack on a few more pounds and go to HW.

    I'd probably just eliminate 168 and 130

I agree with cruiser or at least don't make it so big back when cruiser was 190 it wasn't so bad. Super and Junior middle could go too. To many divisions for guys to cave a niche.

None, I would say. It's better to decrease the number of boxing organisations.
