it was about as entertaining as it could be given the circumstances. Fury got his soft touch which most people realised it was, but instead of showboating 12 rounds he made a pretty good showing of it.

 

to be fair AJ has had the better fights of the two. Fury v Wilder was a good one though. I would most like to see AJ v Wilder - thats one where whoever lands first wins, although Wilder has shown more grit and powers of recovery so far

I was listening to the Fight Disciples podcast released today. It was a great listen as always. They talked about how when Crawford fought Khan, nobody apart from the boxing fans knew it was on. When Joshua fought Ruiz, once again it was mainly the boxing fans who really took notice of it. In Vegas, apparently everywhere you went there were posters of Fury. If you switched on the telly, Tyson Fury would be on it, if you listened to the radio it was about Tyson Fury. ESPN absolutely hammered it apparently. This was all about raising the profile of Fury for future fights, it was about an investment essentially. They’re not just aiming Fury at boxing fans in America, they’re trying to put him in every home & as everyone knows they’re doing that under the guise of mental health & his story.

There are one or two who absolutely buzz off ppv figures and ticket sales but you’re going to have to think more long term with this one. If he’s pulling in pitiful ppv/ticket sales in a couple of fights time then you’ll have been proven right. However, I don’t think you’ll see Tyson Fury fighting in the U.K. for a number of years now and Vegas will keep wanting him to go back there.

Matchroom have bitten off more than they can chew at the moment in my opinion....The UK shows are in the toilet and all their PPV men have grown old together whilst AJs big USA take over was a disaster.On top of all that his young prospects seem to all be getting exposed and SKY have clearly not been happy with what is going on and i cannot imagine Matchroom will have a monopoly with them once that 5 year deal runs out.....Great days indeed

Have you ever been to Vegas? I know this is an obvious point if you have, but during fight week, (especially at the venue where it's happening) there is publicity everywhere. Posters of Tyson everywhere aren't unsurprising; it would be the same regardless who was fighting. But I think there would still be some disappointment given how poorly it sold.

I'm not saying they're not trying to raise his profile. I'm just questioning how big he is. As ever, it's always a question of 'next time' with Tyson. Who knows, maybe the Wilder rematch will be a Lewis Tyson level fight. I don't think it will.

I don’t think a fight with Tom Schwarz was ever gonna sell well. I thought the opponent was incredibly underwhelming prior to it and i’m sure many others did also. However, this was about planting millions of seeds beforehand with TV & radio appearances talking about mental health etc. The fight itself was purely to give him a run out and create a few viral clips (ring entrance and dodging 6 successive punches with his hands down). I’ll be honest, I don’t care either way, just offering an opinion. I just want to see some great heavyweight fights soon.

 

lol @ anyone trying to turn a 5k attended fight in Vegas as some kind of good result. Think longterm all you want but that was not expected. 7 days before Bob Arum was saying 9000 tickets were sold. The fact he had to lie say's it all.

Now this doesn't mean going forward every Fury fight in America will be poorly attended but to try and turn the Schwartz fight into some commercial success is laughable.

Bob Arum also claimed Fury v Schwartz was going to drive more subs to ESPN+ than UFC did (500k). That clearly didn't happen so on what metric here are we using to judge something as commercially successful?

If AJ v Ruiz drew 10k to MSG this place rightfully would have said the show was a commercial flop so I really dont see why anyone is trying to turn a bombed Las Vegas show into success.

If Fury fights another opponent at a similar level as Schwartz the end result will be the same. You can plaster him all over ESPN, radio etc etc but at the end of the day people need to buy tickets and people will not pay to watch total one sided fights on paper.

 

Eddie Hearn is a promoter safeguarding his best interests. Sounded like a sensible interview to me! Also paid Tyson a number of compliments to help sound genuine to most lol. OP knows better

Gate receipts for boxing in USA amount for almost nothing....Its like saying Man Utd had a half full stadium .makes no odds in the grand scheme of revenue...
